Eagle E.Y.E. – Encouraging Your Excellence is a program designed for students that are on academic probation at the university.

What does it mean to be on Academic Probation?

Rules and Regulations

Probation and Dismissal (From the Undergraduate Academic Catalog)

  • All students who have been officially admitted to the University must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.0. The Admissions and Academic Progress Committee reviews the academic status of students at the end of the fall and spring semesters.
  • A student who receives two or more grades of “F” or whose cumulative grade point average falls below 2.0 in any semester is placed on academic probation. Probationary students may be required to participate in a university skills program, may be limited in the number of hours in which they may enroll while on probation, and/or given other conditions (e.g., grade requirements to be met, required to meet with an identified person).
  • The Committee on Academic Progress may remove a student from probationary status when the student has completed at least twelve credit hours while on probation, has shown progress toward a degree, and has raised his or her cumulative grade point average to at least 2.0. Failure to meet the conditions may result in dismissal from the University. The probationary period may be extended beyond twelve credit hours with the approval of the committee. Dismissal from the University without a probationary period is possible if the student was admitted on a provisional status, has a cumulative grade point average below 1.6, or is classified as a senior. Students placed on academic dismissal may appeal the dismissal once in writing to the Academic Affairs Office.

Satisfactory Academic Progress (Satisfactory Academic Progress)

  • Federal regulations require institutions to establish minimum standards of satisfactory academic progress for students receiving federal, state, and/or institutional financial aid. All aid applicants are required to maintain a designated grade point average (GPA) and satisfactorily complete a percentage of the number of credit hours they attempt.   • All students are encouraged to thoroughly read all information sent from Student Financial Services including the terms and conditions for all awards prior to accepting their aid. Goals and Learning Objectives

The goal of this program is to get you off of academic probation and back in good standing with the university. 

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify and describe at least three  student success resources and how to access them
  • Identify who your advisor is and how to utilize them to create the best course schedule and workload for yourself each semester
  • Describe important Financial Aid policies and how your GPA can affect your financial aid package
  • Demonstrate understanding of how to utilize time management tools such as a planner or planner app (phone or desktop) to help with staying organized
  • Identify and describe at least three campus resources that are not directly related to academics but may be helpful (i.e. Food Pantry, Counseling Services, Student Access Office) 
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate your needs and ask for help when appropriate
  • Increase your sense of self-efficacy going into the next semester
  • Increase your confidence that you are a good student and that you can complete your degree
  • Build or add to your college support system so that you are not alone and that it is okay to get help when you need it
  • Increase your comfort with seeking out support and assistance
  • Increase your GPA to above a 2.0 by the end of the semester and no failing grades

Expectations

Students on academic probation are expected to:

  • Enroll in a non-credit course that will provide resources and information that will be helpful throughout the semester
  • Meet with their assigned Success Coach once a month
  • Attend a minimum of 5 hours of study hall in the library per week (one hour a day). 
  • Study hall can be completed by working with a tutor on course content or by checking in with the Director of Academic Success & Tutoring for a Get it Done Session
  • Meet with the Director of Financial Aid to discuss Satisfactory Academic Progress
    (Only if you have received an email or letter from Financial Aid about financial awards being affected)
  • Connect with the Coordinator of Career Services to discuss major exploration”
    (Only if you feel like your major may be the reason you are not performing your best in your classes)
