Responsibilities

Avila University’s School of Innovative Professional and Graduate Studies needs adjunct instructors in the following disciplines (both for Undergraduate and Graduate programs):  Business Administration, Healthcare Management, Human Resources, Supply Chain, International Business, Marketing, Psychology, Economics, Finance, Data Science, Statistics, Business Law, Accounting and other liberal arts-based subjects.

  • Teach online in an accelerated (8-week), asynchronous environment and follow best practices in delivering disciplines in this modality.
  • Adhere to Quality Matters and Online Faculty Norms expectations of course delivery.
  • Provide instruction, activities, assignments, assessments, and feedback to successfully cover all objectives for the course(s) taught.

Qualifications

For Undergraduate programs, the applicant must have a Master’s degree or higher in a specific discipline relevant to teaching responsibilities or a Master’s degree in another area with 18 credit hours of discipline graduate coursework from an accredited university/college. In addition, the applicant preferred to have professional work experience in a field directly related to the discipline.

For Graduate programs, the applicant must have a Doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D) or other terminal degrees in a specific discipline relevant to teaching responsibilities or a Master’s degree in a specific discipline with substantive professional work experience in a field directly related to the discipline.

Position Title: Clinical Adjunct Nursing Instructors – School of Nursing

Position Available: The School of Nursing at Avila University invites applications for adjunct clinical instructor positions for various placements.

Appointment Date: Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters

Responsibilities:

Clinical adjunct instructors that could include the following placements (in-patient environment only):

  • Critical Care – (spring only)
  • Medical Surgical/Telemetry (fall and spring)
  • Mental Health (spring only)

Position Title Visiting Assistant Professor of Chemistry
Position Available The Avila University College of Science & Health, guided by the mission of excellence in teaching and learning, and dedicated to the service to the Dear Neighbor is actively seeking a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor of Chemistry. The successful candidate would need to be able to teach undergraduate general, organic, and biochemistry courses. This is a 10 month/year visiting position that could be renewed for one additional academic year and/or converted to a tenure-track position.

Responsibilities Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching chemistry courses, with labs, in general, organic, and biochemistry, with a possibility of teaching advanced courses in the applicant’s area of expertise that will strengthen the existing programs in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and Professional Health Science.
  • Willing to contribute to the college’s liberal arts core curriculum.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:

  • Candidates must possess an earned doctoral degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Doctoral candidates with All but Dissertation (ABD) status would also be given full consideration for the position if the completion date is in the near future.
  • Full time faculty will be academically and experientially qualified and maintain expertise in previously mentioned areas of responsibility.
  • Ability to work effectively with others in a wide variety of settings.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Postdoctoral and/or industrial experience is desirable.
  • Teaching experience desirable in baccalaureate education.

Strong preference will be given to candidates that have demonstrated ability to incorporate evidence-based practices in undergraduate chemistry lecture, laboratory, and research courses.

Work in conjunction with the Program Chair of the Nursing Department, faculty and the university’s partners to create an ideal learning environment for non-traditional nursing students.

Upward Bound Academic Advisor

Responsibilities

Avila University seeks applicants for a full-time academic advisor for a federally grant-funded Department of Education, TRIO Classic Upward Bound (UB) program. The UB program serves 74 first generation and limited income students from Grandview and Ruskin High School. The purpose of Upward Bound is to increase student access and success at a postsecondary institution as well as ensure academic success in high school and college readiness. 

  • Maintain student records and document all contacts
  • Oversee and implement tutoring component of academic year which includes hiring of tutors, scheduling of tutors as well as scheduling of tutoring sessions, advertise online tutoring, manage hours of tutors and virtual hours (TutorMe), communicate with school staff to determine academic needs of students
  • Collaborate with Academic Advisor that serves Central and Northeast to provide ACT Test Prep for Juniors and Seniors
  • Individual advising to ensure students meet a rigorous curriculum. Meet with students individually at least twice a semester
  • Assist in planning of UB activities based on student needs
  • Assist in the planning of a six-week residential component
  • Oversee the academic component of the summer which include creating the course schedules, hiring and training of instructors and ensuring students are progressing through courses adequately.
  • Assist in the planning of the end of year trip, and attend
  • Plan and organize monthly academic workshops based on student needs 
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of Saturday Seminars
  • Requires some nights and weekends, travel required for student activities and professional development.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Education:     Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, social sciences, or related fields 

Skills:           Must be motivated, have meticulous attention to detail, have interpersonal, organizational and communication skills. The ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic team is necessary. Excellent writing skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office. Access to various college access, tutoring and ACT resources.

Experience:   Experience in overcoming barriers or working with individuals similar to those of the target population; experience in programming and presenting, advising, tutoring, and ACT prep. Experience working collaboratively with diverse groups including students, administrators and external service providers.

Upward Bound Director – Classic and Achieve Grant

Responsibilities

The Director of Upward Bound is responsible for overseeing two Upward Bound grants. Classic Upward Bound works with 74 students at Grandview High School and Ruskin High School. Achieve Upward Bound works with 60 students at Central and Northeast High School.

  • Review expenditures and develop semester budget proposals
  • Oversee preparation and implementation of recruitment and programming for participants
  • Develop and maintain relationships with target school personnel to ensure achievement of project objectives and activities
  • Ensure collaboration between both UB programs
  • Oversee the development and implementation of Saturday Seminars and Tutoring
  • Represent the project to constituent groups in the community, target schools, and host institution
  • Supervise, hire, and train project staff
  • Interview students and perspective students and give advice regarding application process, project requirements, course requirements, etc.
  • Develop and oversee a “work study” program for 12th graders during summer programming
  • Monitor and Implement Upward Bound’s participation in the Missouri Summer Food Program
  • Monitor students’ attendance, behavior, grades, test scores, and credits earned; implement improvement strategies and action plans
  • Oversee the organization and development of the 5 week residential summer program
  • Plan and organize the 6th week Cultural Trip (part of UB summer program)
  • Some weekends and evenings are required as well as the potential to travel during student trips and professional development events

Qualifications

Required:

  • Master’s degree in counselor education, teacher education, higher education, business administration, social services, or related field with appropriate experience
  • At least three years of experience designing, implementing, and managing comprehensive educational programs for potential first-generation, low-income students 
  • Knowledge of student development, academic advising, tutoring, mentoring methods, and experience implementing relevant strategies 
  • Experience in planning and executing of programming
  • At least three years’ experience and proficiency in managing budgets, analyzing data, and writing reports 
  • Experience supervising, training, and evaluating professional staff
  • Experience developing professional working relationships with diverse entities: public school administration, host institution leaders, community organizations, and social service agencies.
  • Experience with, or from a background similar to, TRIO participants

Position Summary

The Director of Foundation, Government, and Corporate Relations is responsible for comprehensive oversight of Avila’s grants program. The incumbent will be responsible for constituency prospecting, cultivation, and stewardship; internal stakeholder engagement in grants prospecting, program design, and proposal development; application project management, writing, editing, budgets, submissions, and post-award activities.

Principle Responsibilities:

  • Develop, write and edit grant proposals and reports. Submit 60-75 proposals/year, including 4-6 federal proposals/year.
  • Proactively seek to identify 4-6 new prospects annually from corporate, foundation and government sources.
  • Submit grant proposals/applications and reports on time and accurately.
  • Assist with other writing projects, like case statements, Accent magazine articles, etc., as needed.
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.

Program Oversight / Strategy:

  • Create and manage a well-coordinated, strategic foundation/corporate development plan including assessment, cultivation, solicitation, including stewardship activities with the goal of raising maximum support for Avila priorities and critical initiatives.
  • Identify and build relationships with faculty leading research and programs that align with institutional priorities and the needs of funders.
  • Monitor the development of academic programs at the university to identify opportunities to engage foundations, government, and corporate prospects.

Grants Management:

  • Identify and maintain current inventory of relevant foundations, government, and corporate grant opportunities.
  • Work with Advancement/University leadership and campus colleagues to align Avila’s relevant strategic programming with prospective foundations, government, and corporate grant opportunities.
  • Project manage select federal proposals, working with campus colleagues to complete and submit proposals approved by Avila leadership.
  • Serve as primary liaison with external consultants to develop and submit select federal proposals.

Constituent Relationship Management:

  • Identify and effectively match the needs and initiatives of government, foundation, and corporate funders with Avila’s needs and critical initiatives, serving as an expert liaison for the Avila community.
  • Establish and maintain strategic relationships with community members and campus colleagues in order to strengthen and increase Avila’s ties to foundations, government, and corporate funders.
  • Initiate appropriate stewardship activities through prospect proposals and personal visits.
  • Serve as the primary relationship stewardship manager for a portfolio of foundations, government, and corporate entities.
  •  Identify and cultivate corporate executives as prospects for individual giving.

Responsibilities
  1. Demonstrate a student-centered philosophy in support of student success.
  2. Work collaboratively with Center for Student Excellence (CSE) staff to implement persistence strategies targeted to meet the needs of Avila’s at-risk student groups.
  3. Conduct regular student success meetings with students, as referred by the academic probation committee, utilizing progress reports, mid-term grades, and/or student probation records.
  4. Provide academic support as requested via referrals from the Care Team and/or faculty and staff.
  5. Work within Avila’s Early Alert system to identify struggling students, working with identified students to overcome obstacles in order to remain in school.
  6. Collect data related to students served, the issues they face, services offered, or referrals made through personal data collected as well as Retention Management systems.
  7. Work with students to ensure a successful fall/spring registration process.
  8. Educate/conduct workshops/outreach for campus community as it relates to meeting the unique needs of at-risk students.
  9. Identify and implement best practices for working with at-risk student groups.
  10. Monitor potential barriers to student success and recommend modifications to processes, policies, and systems impacting student success.
  11. Develop and coordinate transition orientation program(s) for transfer students with mentors.
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree, 1-2 years’ experience, awareness of best practices in working with at-risk student groups.

Preferred qualifications – Master’s Degree in related field and member of at-risk student group preferred.

Responsibilities Avila University seeks applicants for a full-time Instructional Design and Data Coordinator for federally grant-funded Department of Education TRIO grants.  The TRIO Office at Avila University houses three TRIO programs that include two Upward Bound programs (pre-college) and one Student Support Service program (college). Services are provided to approximately 284 participants each year. Services are provided in person and online to maximize student success.

  • Develop virtual workshops and presentations for project participants, parents and guardians
  • Monitor compliance with U.S. Department of Education guidelines and policies; project guideline, policies; and Avila guidelines and policies
  • Assist in planning and designing of virtual project curriculum, workshops, learning modules
  • Provide online evaluations for students to complete after programming and present results during TRIO/UB Meetings

Position Title Available Graduate Assistant – Library Interlibrary Loan

Responsibilities The Hooley-Bundschu Library and Learning Commons is looking for a responsible, personable and well-organized candidate to provide Interlibrary Loan (ILL) services in collaboration with and under the supervision of the Electronic Resources Librarian. This position works on an as-needed basis, scheduling flexibility is available as long as all job requirements are met. ILL Graduate Assistants can expect to do the following:

  • 90% Assists in providing Interlibrary Loan Services (ILL):
  • Assist with the daily functioning of the ILL department in collaboration with the Electronic Resources Librarian, who supervises the department.
  • Verify and search for requested materials for local patrons and requesting libraries. This requires the use of various bibliographic tools, both print and online.
  • Maintain a cooperative and positive communication system between the Interlibrary Loan department and its patrons and borrowing libraries. Notify and resolve problems with patrons regarding their requests.
  • Assist Avila patrons with ILL questions and general ILL information.
  • Tracks progress and keep statistics on all ILL borrowing and lending activities and prepare reports as requested.
  • Help establish updated procedures for all ILL activities.
  • 10% Additional Duties
  • Collaborate with ILL supervisor on standard ILL operating procedures, updating files, and training materials.
  • Participate in ILL department meetings.
  • Report missing circulation items to Electronic Resources Librarian or to the Library Director.
  • Maintain organization of the ILL/Cataloging office.
