Position Available The School of Natural & Applied Sciences at Avila University is seeking qualified adjunct instructor positions for various biology, health science, and/or chemistry courses.
Appointment Date Positions available for Summer 22, Fall 22, and Spring 23
Responsibilities Avila University needs adjunct instructors for multiple part-time appointments. Teaching responsibilities will include:

  • Lectures and/or labs for
    • Introductory Biology (e.g. Cells, Genes, Ecology, Evolution, Environmental Science, Organismal Biology) or
    • Introductory Chemistry (majors or non-majors)
    • Human Anatomy and Physiology
    • Pathophysiology
  • Conduct all class sessions according to the assigned schedule (in-person and/or online).
  • Provide instruction, activities, assignments, assessments, and feedback to adequately cover all objectives for the specific course(s) taught,

Position Title: Clinical Adjunct Nursing Instructors – School of Nursing

Position Available: The School of Nursing at Avila University invites applications for adjunct clinical instructor positions for various placements.

Appointment Date: Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters

Responsibilities:

Clinical adjunct instructors that could include the following placements (in-patient environment only):

  • Critical Care – (spring only)
  • Medical Surgical/Telemetry (fall and spring)
  • Mental Health (spring only)
  • Pediatrics (Peds)- (fall only)
  • Obstetrics (OB) – (fall only)

The placements are on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays. A Friday option may be available for the Critical Care placement (spring only).

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in nursing
  • Current or past clinical expertise in designated setting.

Position Title Visiting Assistant Professor of Chemistry
Position Available The Avila University College of Science & Health, guided by the mission of excellence in teaching and learning, and dedicated to the service to the Dear Neighbor is actively seeking a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor of Chemistry. The successful candidate would need to be able to teach undergraduate general, organic, and biochemistry courses. This is a 10 month/year visiting position that could be renewed for one additional academic year and/or converted to a tenure-track position.
Appointment Date August 2022
Responsibilities Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching chemistry courses, with labs, in general, organic, and biochemistry, with a possibility of teaching advanced courses in the applicant’s area of expertise that will strengthen the existing programs in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and Professional Health Science.
  • Willing to contribute to the college’s liberal arts core curriculum.
  • Create an environment in the classroom which facilitates effective student learning
  • Advise and motivate students to think, to question, and to critically analyze.
  • Participate in developing, implementing, and assessing a chemistry curriculum
  • Potential to maintain professional scholarship with the opportunity to mentor students as part of our capstone research experience program.
  • Participate in service efforts in the College of Science & Health.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:

  • Candidates must possess an earned doctoral degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Doctoral candidates with All but Dissertation (ABD) status would also be given full consideration for the position if the completion date is in the near future.
  • Full time faculty will be academically and experientially qualified and maintain expertise in previously mentioned areas of responsibility.
  • Ability to work effectively with others in a wide variety of settings.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Postdoctoral and/or industrial experience is desirable.
  • Teaching experience desirable in baccalaureate education.

Strong preference will be given to candidates that have demonstrated ability to incorporate evidence-based practices in undergraduate chemistry lecture, laboratory, and research courses.

Responsibilities The School of Education at Avila University in Kansas City, Missouri, invites applications for a part-time instructor in the School of Education.  This part-time position will teach 9 credit hours per semester (3/3 load) in undergraduate and/or graduate programs, and participate in activities and committees within the School of Education.
Qualifications Required: Candidates must possess a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in the field of education, hold a current Kansas and/or Missouri state teaching license, a Building Administrator license and have experience as a teacher in K-12 education. Candidates must demonstrate strong pedagogical skills using a multitude of instructional delivery modes including technology.  Candidates must possess effective interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills.

Preferred: The successful candidate will preferably hold a Building Administrator license, and have experience as an elementary building principal.

Position Available Visiting Assistant Professor in Theatre Design and Technology
Appointment Date August 15, 2022
Responsibilities Temporary full time position from August 15, 2022 – June 30, 2023 with the possibility of an extension.

Teach 6 credit hours in both fall and spring semesters.

Design and assist/oversee student designs and build of 2 mainstage productions per semester.

Serves as Technical Director in the day-to-day operations of the Scenic/Props, Electrical, and Sound for Goppert Performing Arts Center. Will ensure superior production values, safety, and smooth technical operations in all venues.

Maintain all logistical elements of operating and maintaining Goppert Performing Arts Center, including the mainstage, black box, and  music hall, and smaller rehearsal spaces. This includes maintaining a budget and maintenance of all equipment in the theatres and scene shops and overseeing external rental of the PAC spaces.

Supervise students and student employees including applying and enforcing safe working practices. Effectively mentor, supervise, and coordinate the work of students and others.

Serve as Technical Supervisor and client liaison for PAC shows, events, work calls and rehearsals as assigned. Responsible for backstage safety, communicate with Front of House personnel, communicate with outside crews, maintain and protect house equipment, and enforce house rules.

Support client production staff members by providing access to and specialized knowledge of equipment and facilities and keeping PAC equipment operating efficiently.

Ensure rigging system inspections, automation system upkeep and upgrades, and safety systems.

Communicate well with others and maintain confidentiality.

Qualifications The successful candidate will possess a commitment to teach and work in a university environment and a desire to engage both undergraduate students and the community.

  • MFA in Theatre Design and Technology
  • Experience teaching design and technical theatre at the university level with a record of excellence in teaching. Scenic, lighting, and sound are all required areas of competency.
  • Experience supervising student projects and meeting production deadlines.
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate a spirit of collegiality.  Positive collaborative interactions with diverse populations—performance faculty as well as other faculty in musical theatre, music, and dance,  faculty/staff/students from across Avila University, and the public—is essential.

Responsibilities The Office Assistant provides clerical support to the administrative function of the Registrar’s Office. The position ensures the smooth function of the workflow of the office, supports the customer service provision of the office, and greets and interacts with the public. The Office Assistant works cooperatively with staff, faculty, and students, and performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Meet and interact with public and employees in routine situations which require tact, discretion and courtesy.
  • Answer phones and address caller issues, and route calls to appropriate individuals.
  • Handles enrollment, major changes, graduation applications, agreement plans, and exception forms. Transcribes incoming transcripts from Kansas City area colleges/universities with agreement plans.
  • Provide a variety of clerical duties including accurately entering data and maintaining student files and imaged files.
  • Review and monitor new student files for completion and move to electronic files.
  • Process and record student verifications, change of personal information, and other student requests.
  • Sort and classify incoming mail and other information for efficient disbursement to appropriate recipients. Responsible for weekly deposits to the Business Office.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with complete security.
  • Assists with maintaining confidentiality of student information per FERPA.
  • Supports and follows directives of Registrar and Associate Registrar.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:

  • High Diploma or GED and up to one-year experience.
  • Must have a strong working knowledge with MS Word and Excel. Establish cooperative relationships in a calm tactful manner.

Position Available Part-time Lead Academic Coach – Science, Nursing, and Allied Health
Appointment Date February 1, 2022 start date desired. Search will continue until the position is filled.
Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with academic advisors and other relevant staff to manage a caseload of at-risk students enrolled and/or interested in Avila’s nursing and allied health programs
  • Provides one-on-one and small group academic coaching and tutoring for students taking foundational/gateway pre-nursing and pre-allied health science classes (such as biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, and anatomy and physiology) and first-year courses in Avila’s nursing and allied health programs
  • Observes, diagnoses, and discusses academic support needs with students and provides explanation, clarification, and reference materials
  • Observes, mentors, and provides feedback and oversight to Peer Academic Coaches within Avila’s STEM, nursing, and allied health spaces
  • Works with the Academic Success and Tutoring Services Director to develop, coordinate, and deliver tutor training and professional development activities related to providing academic support for nursing and allied health science students
  • Works closely with faculty to identify academic support needs
  • Develops, revises, and maintains Open Educational Resources (OERs), handouts, and other academic support resources
  • Helps develop, deliver, and participate in relevant program assessment activities
  • Provides basic problem solving and troubleshooting support for hardware/software/operations
  • Advises Academic Success and Tutoring Services Director of resources needed
  • Maintains an organized, orderly, and safe learning environment

Responsibilities The Admission Representative manages a recruitment program targeted at prospective college students in a specified geographic region.  This individual represents Avila University at college fairs, college visits and recruiting events on campus.  The Admission Representative also assists with and/or coordinates project work and event planning for prospective students and families.  The position may require extensive travel, phoning and correspondence to maintain the external contacts necessary to reach enrollment goals.  Frequent evening and some weekend work required.

Responsibilities

Position Summary

The Director of Foundation, Government, and Corporate Relations is responsible for comprehensive oversight of Avila’s grants program. The incumbent will be responsible for constituency prospecting, cultivation, and stewardship; internal stakeholder engagement in grants prospecting, program design, and proposal development; application project management, writing, editing, budgets, submissions, and post-award activities.

Principle Responsibilities:

  • Develop, write and edit grant proposals and reports. Submit 60-75 proposals/year, including 4-6 federal proposals/year.
  • Proactively seek to identify 4-6 new prospects annually from corporate, foundation and government sources.
  • Submit grant proposals/applications and reports on time and accurately.
  • Assist with other writing projects, like case statements, Accent magazine articles, etc., as needed.
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.

Program Oversight / Strategy:

  • Create and manage a well-coordinated, strategic foundation/corporate development plan including assessment, cultivation, solicitation, including stewardship activities with the goal of raising maximum support for Avila priorities and critical initiatives.
  • Identify and build relationships with faculty leading research and programs that align with institutional priorities and the needs of funders.
  • Monitor the development of academic programs at the university to identify opportunities to engage foundations, government, and corporate prospects.
  • Provide suggestions/recommendations to Advancement/University leadership for new, potential mission critical initiatives, which will assist in raising Avila’s profile with major funders.
  • Attend Deans’ Council and other meetings as directed by Advancement leadership.

Grants Management:

  • Identify and maintain current inventory of relevant foundations, government, and corporate grant opportunities.
  • Work with Advancement/University leadership and campus colleagues to align Avila’s relevant strategic programming with prospective foundations, government, and corporate grant opportunities.
  • Project manage select federal proposals, working with campus colleagues to complete and submit proposals approved by Avila leadership.
  • Serve as primary liaison with external consultants to develop and submit select federal proposals.

Constituent Relationship Management:

  • Identify and effectively match the needs and initiatives of government, foundation, and corporate funders with Avila’s needs and critical initiatives, serving as an expert liaison for the Avila community.
  • Establish and maintain strategic relationships with community members and campus colleagues in order to strengthen and increase Avila’s ties to foundations, government, and corporate funders.
  • Initiate appropriate stewardship activities through prospect proposals and personal visits.
  • Serve as the primary relationship stewardship manager for a portfolio of foundations, government, and corporate entities.
  •  Identify and cultivate corporate executives as prospects for individual giving.

Summary The Events & Engagement Coordinator is responsible for planning and coordinating alumni, parent, and donor relationship events to support, encourage, and enhance their engagement with Avila University.
Responsibilities Principle Responsibilities:

  • Lead staff person in implementation of all details of all events held by the Advancement & Alumni Relations department. Also, play a lead role in strategizing for virtual and new engagement events.
  • Work closely with Senior Director of Development & Alumni Relations to manage Steer Dinner.
  • Manages logistics and pre-event planning activities with vendors and hotel event planning.
  • Oversees all auction item solicitations, pick-up, pre-event organization, setup at the event and post event follow up.
  • Manage a committee of volunteers that assists in outreach for auction items, and recruit and train student volunteers at the event.
  • Assist in recruitment of alumni to attend, support, organize tables, and volunteer at the event.
  • Serve as lead staff person for registrations and night of registration/check-in area, and event volunteer management activities.

Event Planning and Production

  • Assist with negotiations for space contracts and book event space, arrange food and beverage, order supplies and audiovisual equipment, and ensure appropriate décor (florals, linens, color schemes, etc.) meet the quality expectations for the event.
  • Assist with preparing budgets and track event finances including check requests, invoicing, and reporting.
  • Assist with managing on-site production, including event materials, clean up, and close out for events as necessary.
  • Manage the Advancement & Alumni webpages and social media.

8.Educate/conduct workshops/outreach for campus community as it relates to meeting the unique needs of at-risk students.

9.Identify and implement best practices for working with at-risk student groups.

10.Monitor potential barriers to student success and recommend modifications to processes, policies, and systems impacting student success.

11.Develop and coordinate transition orientation program(s) for transfer students with mentors.
