2019 SCHOOL OF BUSINESS ACADEMIC AWARD WINNERS
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
Majors: Finance and International Business (honoree)
Avila Faves: The professors in the business school go beyond the classroom by expressing genuine interest in their students' lives. I had knowledgeable advisors that guided me through my four years at Avila University. Their patience and expertise helped me complete a double major in International Business and Finance. I also benefitted from small class sizes, which allowed me to engage in my classes and maintain my focus on each lesson. Additionally, I was able to collaborate with my classmates frequently and in turn, gained new friendships. Thank you to all of my mentors, advisors, and professors for their support and advice.
Updates/Plans: I will pursue a career in Finance in the United States
Avila Faves: I found Avila’s small class sizes in the business department to be excellent for one on one help from teachers. Outside of business, I’ve had teachers that are passionate in their subjects, from Criminal Justice to music. Avila provides a unique opportunity to take classes that you might not find at other universities.
Updates/Plans: After graduating Avila, I’ll be taking the LSAT over the summer. I’ll finish up my MBA from 2019-2020 and then most likely enter Washburn Law. I plan to pursue a career in fraud accounting.
Majors: Finance (honoree) & Management (honoree)
Avila Faves: During my three years at Avila, I have had the opportunity to get to know and interact with outstanding people. The small school environment allowed me to get to know my professors and classmates far better than if I had gone to a large school. I am truly grateful that I was able to find myself surrounded by professors who genuinely expressed interest in my success and academic career.
Updates/Plans: I will be starting law school at KU in the Fall 2019 semester and plan to pursue my law career upon graduation from there.
Avila Faves: During my three and a half years at Avila University, I was surrounded by professors who truly cared about my academic success. Because class sizes were small, it was not uncommon to have a professor for multiple classes. This allowed them to tailor their lectures to how you best learn. Faculty and staff genuinely wanted to see you succeed and were always available outside of class. Not only did Avila University shape me into a better person, but it prepared me for a career in the business world.
Updates/Plans: Upon graduation in December, I began working at an agency downtown as a Digital Marketing Specialist. In the near future, I plan to pursue an MBA.
“All of the opportunities you have at Avila give you resources to go on in life. Professors not only know what they’re talking about, but they care. From step A to B, Avila is with you. They want to see you succeed, so they give you the resources you need to succeed.”

“It’s been a really good experience for me. Avila has great faculty willing to work with students. Class sizes are small, so it’s easier to learn, I think, and get help when you need it. I’m sure I’ll be able to apply skills I learned here in the work force."

“My four years at Avila have been amazing. I’ve grown a lot as a person. Career services at Avila guided me toward my internship, and it’s been huge for me. It’s the perfect ending to my classwork, just to see what you’ll be doing in the real world. You get a taste of it. It was a great learning experience. And, I established a good relationship there. I’m pretty set to work there after I finish grad school."

“I felt like coming to college out of high school, I was more of a quiet person. At Avila, I’ve learned to be more of a leader and know how I want to be seen in a professional way. Avila has a very good name in this community. People hear you name Avila, and they believe you have a good head on your shoulders."
