Hear from the new President of Avila University, Dr. Jim Burkee, and his vision for Avila. This reception is open to all alumni, friends, and community members

FRIDAY, September 30

11 a.m. Heritage Day Mass • Orscheln Memorial Chapel, Foyle Hall
Join the annual celebration of the heritage of Avila University and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.

12:15-2 p.m. Heritage Day Luncheon • McCullough Courtyard  
This annual luncheon honors Heritage Society members who have designated a gift to Avila in their estate plans or have established a named endowed scholarship. Alumni celebrating their 50-year reunion, as well as other milestone reunion years, will be recognized.

4:30 – 6 p.m. Avila Nursing Hard Hat ReceptionAdjacent to Wylie Hall Parking Lot

All Nursing Alumni are invited to campus to check out the new nursing lab expansion project! Come see the progress on the new learning space, connect with nursing faculty, and learn more about the future of Avila Nursing programs.

5:30 p.m. Athletics Hall of Fame Induction • Whitfield Center
Athletics Hall of Fame inductees will be celebrated in front of their family, friends and other Hall of Fame members at this event. Tickets are $15.

Avila parents are invited to attend a special dinner theatre night. Enjoy a dinner buffet and the play immediately following for $30.

Saturday, October 1

Noon – 2 p.m. Tailgate & BBQ • Parking lot by Zarda Athletic Complex

Bring the family to enjoy delicious barbeque and the carnival atmosphere at this year’s tailgate. The $10 fee includes the tailgate and game. Children 12 and under are free with the purchase of an adult ticket.

1 p.m. Football Game • Zarda Athletic Complex
Cheer your Avila Eagles to a victory over Sterling College Warriors. Don’t forget to wear your purple and gold!

3-5 p.m. Alumni Choir Rehearsal • Orscheln Memorial Chapel, Foyle Hall
Alumni who participated in University Singers as students are invited to return to Avila to be a part of Alumni Choir, which will perform the Sunday of Homecoming Weekend.

5 p.m. Alumni Reunion Reception • Marian Center
Alumni who are celebrating a milestone reunion year are invited to gather and reconnect, and enjoy drinks and light appetizers. Milestone years end in a “2” or “7.”

5 p.m. Alumni Performing Arts Reception – Goppert Performing Arts Center

Performing Arts alumni are invited to gather and reconnect, and enjoy drinks and appetizers before the 6 p.m. Dinner Theatre & “Clue” Theatre Performance

6 p.m. Class of 1972 50-Year Reunion Reception & Dinner • Thornhill Gallery
Avila is proud to welcome back alumnae from the class of 1972, celebrating 50 years since graduation.

  • Hotel: A block of rooms under the name Avila University has been reserved at Hyatt Place Overland Park Convention Center, 5001 W. 110th Street, Overland Park, Kansas 66211. The hotel can be reached at 913.491.9002.
  • Bookstore: The Avila University bookstore in Marian Center will be open on Saturday, 11:00 a.m. – 3 p.m. for all community members during Homecoming Weekend.
  • Serving the Dear Neighbor: To continue the tradition set by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet to serve the dear neighbor without distinction, Avila will host a collection of non-perishable items for the Feed Your Friends Food Pantry. Visit their webpage for more information on specific needs.
