What’s it like at Avila?

Marlon Jones, ’21

“My three years at Avila were probably the most character-building, defining parts of my life. I don’t say that lightly. I was broken down and rebuilt into so many different versions of myself and just being able to finally get a grasp on who I am as a person and what I want out of myself, inspired me, too. It’s easier to chase your dreams when you’re at school. I appreciate Avila for that.”

Cornell Ellis, ’13

“When I was at a big state school, I didn’t feel like I was being held accountable if I didn’t show up to class or complete my homework. But when I got to Avila, I was getting phone calls and text messages from my professors if I missed a class to make sure I was okay. Avila had more of a family environment that made me feel valued.”

Cameron Leathers, ’22

“Avila has a lot of on-campus after-class activities. They always have social activities where you get to interact. This is especially nice for commuter students that don’t get 24/7 on campus. I joined a couple of groups so that I could keep up with them and that made the experience a lot better – getting to hang out with and talk to more people.”

Scott Bower, ’20

“My favorite part about Avila is the in-class and out-of-class availability and assistance provided by extremely knowledgeable professors. With that being said, the quality of the education I received was excellent.

Professors still expect you to perform academically and push students to excel in their interdisciplinary studies while taking charge of their own success. Apart from class and faculty, I have also enjoyed the friendly nature of Avila’s student body and their willingness to help other classmates out while completing their education. I have made lasting friendships that I will treasure for a lifetime.”

Adrianna Wendel, ’22

“I was the recipient of the Eschbacher Excellence in Education award given to a senior in the School of Education. This was honestly quite a shock to me. I was a secondary education minor and, at that, not teaching a “core” subject, such as math, science, or English. I was so honored that the School of Education chose me and has pushed me to be the best teacher I can be.”

Dylan Carnahan, ’20

“I originally chose to attend Avila so that I could continue playing baseball. After I enrolled, however, I was pleased to find that Avila offered outstanding academic opportunities as well. The professors take initiative and seek to see you succeed. The class size coupled with the professors, allow for a personalized experience that exceeded my expectations. This experience enabled me to enter Avila’s 4+1 graduate program and graduate with a minor in management.”
