Sister Mary Frances Johnson

Sister Mary Frances Johnson, CSJ has been on the Avila Board since 2008. She was born in Green Bay and grew up there. She received her B.S. (1963) and M.S. (1965) in chemistry from Marquette University. She received her Ph.D. from St. Louis University in 1972 in inorganic chemistry. Her doctoral research was a kinetic study of rare earth amine complexes in non-aqueous solution. She received NDEA and NASA fellowships to support her studies. Sister’s ministries included teaching chemistry at Fontbonne College, the College of St. Catherine, and Longview Community College. She also served as Assistant to the President at the College of St. Catherine for three years. After those academic experiences, she became a Provincial Councilor and Kansas City Regional Superior for the Sisters of St. Joseph. During that time she was Chairperson of the Board of St. Joseph Health Center and earned an M.B.A. in the Executive Program at Rockhurst College in 1989. Her most recent ministry was as Treasurer of the St. Louis Province from 1992 – 2025. For twenty five of those years she also served as a Consultant for the National Religious Retirement Office, a department of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. She now resides at The Village at Nazareth Living Center in independent living.
