Two Eagles golfers named scholar-athletes

Kansas City, MO - Two student-athletes on the Avila men’s golf team recently were named as 2012 Daktronics-NAIA Men’s Golf Scholar-Athletes.
Geoff Gahn, a senior from Las Vegas, Nev., and Gary Lessor, a senior from Casa Grande, Ariz., both received the honor for maintaining at least a 3.5 grade-point average and having an eligibility status of at least junior.
Eagles Claim Avila Spring Invitational Title
April 12, 2012
Kansas City, MO – After sitting one shot behind Missouri Baptist University after round one, the Eagles came back to shot a second round 301 to win their second straight tournament. Day one leaders Missouri Baptist shot a second round 311 and finished nine strokes back in second place. Jack Jackson (Missouri Baptist) took the individual title with a two day total of 143 (-1). Jackson’s opening round 68 (-4) was the lowest round of the tournament. Four of the Eagles five golfers placed in the top five as Keenan Richcreek finished in second (146), Gary Lessor in third (147), Geoff Gahn in fourth (149), and Zac Weese in a two way tie for fifth (149).

Eagles Claim Ottawa Spring Invite Title
March 28, 2012

Kansas City, MO – After opening round one with a team score of 291, the lowest round by any team in the tournament, Avila shot a 309 on day two of the tournament for a two day total of 600 to claim first place. The Eagles clung on to their lead as Morningside College came charging on day two and finished with a two day total 601.
The Eagles were led by Geoff Gahn as he finished with a two round total of 146, good enough for second place individually. Gahn shot an opening day round of 71 (-1), and closed out the second day with a round of 75 (+3).
Gary Lessor (9th Place – 151) and Spencer Phillips (10th Place – 152) joined Gahn in the top 10 individually.
The Eagles will next play in the Avila hosted Spring Invitational April 9th and 10th at Longview Golf Course in Kansas City, MO.

Eagles Finish in Third After Strong Round 1 Performance
March 7, 2012
Kansas City, MO - After finish round one in second place, just five strokes behind the leaders Pittsburg State, the Eagles fell to third, finishing one stroke behind Early Bird Tournament hosts Rockhurst University.
The Eagles we're led by Keenan Richcreek, who finished the two day tournament at thirteen over (157), four strokes behind the individual champion, Cole Murrin from Pitt State. After finishing round one tied for first with a round of 74, Geoff Gahn shot a second day 84, good enough for a fifth place finish overall.
The Eagles will next head to Eagle Bend GC for the Ottawa University Spring Inviational which will take place March 26 and 27.
