How It Works
The Patterson Nursing Scholar program offers full tuition and fee coverage with scholarships paving the way to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). If accepted, you agree to work full-time for two years in a rural county as defined by the Patterson Foundation. Many counties near Kansas City are designated as HPSAs.
Criteria for Patterson Nursing Scholar Designation
- Acceptance into the Traditional BSN program at Avila University
- Minimum 2.8 GPA
- Personal statement via video
To Apply, You Will Need:
- A letter of acceptance from the Avila University School of Nursing
- Transcripts showing your current GPA (unofficial transcripts are accepted)
- A 2–3-minute video of yourself addressing the following:
- A brief description of why you are choosing nursing as a career
- An explanation of what excites you about rural nursing
- A discussion of a time you faced adversity, how you handled it, what you learned, and how it changed you
