Quarantine FAQs

Avila University follows the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines regarding quarantining.

You must quarantine if you have been in close contact — within six feet for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more — with someone who has COVID-19 — UNLESS you are fully vaccinated.

People who are fully vaccinated — that means two weeks following the second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, or after the first dose of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine — do NOT need to quarantine after close contact UNLESS you have symptoms.

Fully vaccinated people who have been in close contact with a COVID-19 person should get tested three to five days after the exposure EVEN if you aren’t having symptoms.

What does quarantine mean?

If you have been in close contact with a COVID-19 positive person, you must stay home for 14 days after your last contact with that person. You will not be allowed to attend in-person classes while in quarantine. Your professors will make accommodations, however, read your class syllabus thoroughly for your responsibilities.

  • Watch for a fever (100.4F), cough, shortness of breath, or other COVID-19 symptoms until 14 days after exposure.
  • If you have trouble breathing, seek emergency medical care immediately.
  • If you develop symptoms, immediately self-isolate and contact healthyeagle@avila.edu
  • Where possible, stay away from people you live with, especially people who are at higher risk for getting very sick.
  • Use a separate bathroom, if possible. Don’t share personal household items like cups or towels.

How to avoid quarantine?

Get fully vaccinated. The vaccines are free and readily available at area pharmacies without appointments.

Who doesn’t need to quarantine?

  • Fully vaccinated people do not need to quarantine unless they are having COVID-19 symptoms.
  • If you have recovered from a positive COVID-19 illness within the previous three months and are not showing symptoms, you will not be asked to quarantine.

If you test positive for COVID-19 but had no symptoms, you must still quarantine, however…

If you continue to be symptom-free, you can be around others after 10 days have passed since your positive test.
