Responsibilities: The School of Education at Avila University in Kansas City, Missouri, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Education. An Elementary and/or Special Education educator is sought to teach 12 hours per semester in undergraduate and graduate programs, supervise student teachers, advise education majors and participate in activities and committees of the School of Education and the University.

Qualifications:

Required:  Candidates must possess a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in the field of education, hold a current Kansas and/or Missouri state teaching license and have experience as a regular Elementary and Special Education teacher in K-12 education. Candidates must demonstrate strong pedagogical skills using a multitude of instructional delivery modes including technology. Candidates must possess effective interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills and an ability to build partnerships with K-12 schools.

Preferred:  The successful candidate will preferably have experience with students at both elementary and secondary levels, experience teaching at the college level.

Campus Safety Officer - Part-time

Responsibilities: The Safety Officer will have a passion for serving students, faculty and staff and integrity in ensuring a safe campus environment. Major responsibilities include patrolling facility or man post as instructed and serve as a general security presence and visible deterrent to crime and campus policy violations; detect suspicious activities and watch for criminal acts or campus policy violations at or near assigned post which may be a threat to the property, students or employees on campus; locking and unlocking campus buildings; report all incidents, accidents or medical emergencies; respond to emergencies, such as medical issues and community threats such as fire alarms and by following emergency response procedures.

Currently, a part-time position is available. The Campus Safety Department operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This current position provides staffing coverage during evenings and during weekends; may be needed to rotate to different shifts for vacations and University events. Security patrols are 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Qualifications: Minimum Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older and authorized to work in the United States
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED, or at least 10 years of verifiable employment history
  • 1 year of experience in related field/or bachelor’s degree in field.
  • Knowledge of crime prevention, liability and risk management as they apply to the safety and security fields, in particular to the needs of a university setting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing for the purpose of public interaction and report writing and an interest in being in collaborative service to a university community.
  • Personable and friendly demeanor along with the skills necessary to relate well with all types of people.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Neat and professional appearance along with the ability to maintain a punctual timeliness in reporting to assigned/scheduled duties.
  • Position requires clear and accurate reporting (written and verbal), sitting and standing for long periods of time, lifting and maneuvering barricades, walking and, during an emergency situation, may require running.
  • First Aid and CPR certification courses may be required.

 Preferred Requirements (in addition to above)

  • Experience in security, preferably in a University/College environment.
  • Experience with, or a working understanding of, fire codes or hazardous materials.
  • EMT training a plus.
  • Customer service experience a plus.

Upward Bound Director - Project Achieve Grant

The Director of the Upward Bound Project Achieve is responsible for overseeing the Upward Bound grant. Achieve Upward Bound works with 60 students at Northeast High School and Central High School.

  • Review expenditures and develop semester budget proposals
  • Oversee preparation and implementation of recruitment and programming for participants
  • Develop and maintain relationships with target school personnel to ensure achievement of project objectives and activities
  • Represent the project to constituent groups in the community, target schools, and host institution
  • Supervise, hire, terminate, and train project staff
  • Interview students and perspective students and give advice regarding application process, project requirements, course requirements, etc.
  • Work directly with the seniors to ensure successful transition to a post-secondary institution
  • Develop and oversee a “work study” program for 11th and 12th graders during summer programming
  • Monitor students’ attendance, behavior, grades, test scores, and credits earned; implement improvement strategies and action plans
  • Oversee the organization and development of the 6 week residential summer program
  • Some weekends and evenings are required as well as the potential to travel during student trips and professional development events

 Qualifications Required:

  • Master’s degree in counselor education, teacher education, higher education, business administration, social services, or related field with appropriate experience
  • At least three years of experience designing, implementing, and managing comprehensive educational programs for potential first-generation, low-income students
  • Knowledge of student development, academic advising, tutoring, mentoring methods, and experience implementing relevant strategies
  • Experience in planning and executing of programming
  • At least three years’ experience and proficiency in managing budgets, analyzing data, and writing reports
  • Experience supervising, training, and evaluating professional staff
  • Experience developing professional working relationships with diverse entities: public school administration, host institution leaders, community organizations, and social service agencies.

The Advancement Database Coordinator is responsible for managing the alumni and donor database and all gift processing, as well as coordinating data queries and reports.   • Plan, promote, implement and evaluate Homecoming Week including the Homecoming Dance.
  • Plan, promote, implement and evaluate Halloween Week.
  • Plan, promote, implement and evaluate Week of Giving.
  • Plan, promote, implement and evaluate two (2) Stress Relief Weeks (Fall & Spring).
  • Plan, promote, implement and evaluate Right Relationships Week.
  • Plan, promote, implement and evaluate Valentine’s Week.
  • Plan, promote, implement and evaluate holiday events (Lunar New Year, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, etc).
  • Plan, promote, implement and evaluate commuter student events including Commuter Student Appreciation Week.
  • Plan, promote, implement and evaluate international student events including International Student Appreciation Week and the International Food & Culture Celebration.
  • Plan, promote, implement and evaluate Spring Fling Week including the Spring Fling Dance.
  • Maintain, update and evaluate the bulletin boards used for Avila University event postings.
  • Maintain, update and evaluate the Avila webpage FEATURED EVENTS CALENDAR.
  • General maintenance of the Marian Center Eagles’ Nest.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Life.

Qualifications:  The successful candidate for this position will possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree, and must be admitted to and enrolled in a graduate program at Avila University. The candidate must maintain at minimum a 3.0 GPA. A commitment to student development, higher education, creativity, vision, passion and compassion are imperative.

Salary:  Compensation includes tuition remission for up to nine (9) graduate credit hours per semester, not to exceed eighteen (18) graduate credit hours per year, at Avila University.

Position Available: Graduate Assistant for Student Support Services

Appointment Date: Immediately

Responsibilities :

  • Respond to phone calls, walk-ins, and e-mails
  • Plan, promote, and execute events and programs
  • Support SSS staff in documenting student contacts in federal database
  • Update SSS social media, websites, and other platforms
  • Relay office information to students via email, text, and social media
  • Manage office logistics: vehicle and room reservations, expense reports, etc.
  • Process part-time staff paperwork; may supervise student workers
  • Other duties as assigned

 Qualifications:

Avila graduate student who demonstrates superior communication and organization. An understanding of TRIO and the demographic of students that you will be serving. Above average interpersonal skills, writing ability, and reliability. Above average computer skills with ability to work in Office Suite, social media, and some graphic design ability. Self-motivated, excellent follow-through, and attention to detail. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Must be reliable and flexible. Experience in recruiting or management a plus.

Salary:  Consistent weekly hours Monday through Friday as set by the GA. 9 credit hours of tuition remission for 330 work hours per semester. Some weekend/evening hours may be needed based on events.
