The curriculum is designed to meaningfully explore critical perspectives on media and culture as it prepares students to engage in professional production practice. 

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in undergraduate teaching and possess a varied professional background in one or more of the following areas: Digital Marketing, Sports Broadcasting, Content Creation (image making, motion graphics, video, design, etc.)  and Distribution, Media Writing, and Media Production.

VisCom welcomes innovative pedagogies and varied research agendas and traditions of scholarship. The ideal candidate must possess the ability to teach and integrate storytelling including social media content generation, distribution, and management into the curriculum.

Qualifications
Minimum requirements: Master’s Degree in Communication or related field and relevant work experience in strategic communication including social media, mobile and digital content creation, publication and evaluation. Position summary:
The Assistant Director of Student Financial Services coordinates efforts to ensure that best practices and regulations are followed for all students and that the information and services are provided to students in a timely manner. In this position, he/she will interact with specific internal departments and outside agencies to facilitate the student eligibility process and is accountable for ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Remains current regarding all federal, state and institutional regulations and guidelines pertaining to financial aid programs

  • Oversee awarding and advising of continuing traditional graduates and undergraduates.

  • Assist Director with developing, implementing and revising departmental policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal and state laws, regulations and institutional policies related to financial aid and scholarships as well as maintain processing efficiency

  • Complete the verification process for all financial aid recipients, including but not limited to, collection of documents, processing correction, and COD reporting.

  • Assists with conducting on and off campus presentations, seminars, and/or workshops for students. Also be available to present information at various events held at Avila University as needed.

  • Facilitate coordination and communication between respective college departments as they relate to the Student Financial Services role in creating a positive educational experience for students. Integrate efforts to maximize Student Financial Services role in recruiting and retention.

  • Counsel and advise students and parents regarding financial needs and problems, and recommend financial aid opportunities, academic progress, eligibility and procedures.

  • Monitors student’s SAP and GPA of all aid recipients each semester. Notifies students of the appeal processes if they are not meeting the standards. Makes recommendation for the appeal denial or approval to the Director.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of recent financial aid experience

  • Powerfaids and Jenzabar experience preferred; Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

  • Ability to meet deadlines and maintain a high level of accuracy, professionalism and a customer service orientation

  • Ability to work individually or as a team in a dynamic organization

  • Ability to relate well with a diverse student population

  • Ability to use tact, diplomacy and judgment in dealing with all customers

The Director of Student Access will coordinate services for undergraduate and graduate students, staff and faculty with disabilities according to Section 504 of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The director will also be responsible for faculty and staff consultation and training in regard to student access, budget development and oversight and supervision of staff. As an advocate for students, this position will collaborate with Student Life in providing fully accessible activities on campus and will help to promote campus-wide awareness and support through programming initiatives.

The position is a full-time administrative staff appointment within the Student Development Department of the University. The Director will report to the Assistant Vice President for Student Development & Success.

The primary responsibility of the Director of Student Access is to provide leadership to the Disability Services program.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Conduct intake consultations with new, current and prospective students, staff, and faculty who are requesting accommodations for a disability, as well as, on-going case management.

  • Assist with student and faculty/staff orientations; provide necessary university and community referrals.

  • Gather appropriate documentation for students with disabilities

  • Create student case files, compile records, maintain accurate databases, and reports.

  • Direct, plan and coordinate the services and accommodations for students, with disabilities empowering them to benefit from instructional progress, equal access and within campus activities.

  • Identify the academic and student support services needed by students with disabilities

  • Create a nurturing liaison relationship between students and faculty.

  • Provide advice to university faculty and staff on ways to assist students with disabilities

  • Develop training materials for faculty and staff to increase the awareness and appreciation of the accommodations process for students with disabilities according to ADA laws.

  • Assist students to develop advocacy skills to accept, understand, and manage their disability by maximizing the balance of strengths to challenges, and providing learning strategies and/or coaching services.

  • Current knowledge of applicable disability law, including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and associated demonstrated ability in applying understanding of these laws.

  • Monitor and update University disability services policies and procedures as needed

  • Serve as member and/or Chair of the Disability Committee.

  • Assist students with filing academic and financial aid appeals to include providing letters of support.

  • Coordinate with the IT Department on the universal design process and assistive technology issues.

  • Provide support and/or presentations for visit days, orientation, registration days, and First Year Seminar.

  • Serve as a resource for, and support the efforts of, the student Disability Advocacy Group (DAG).

  • Occasionally evening and weekend hours may be required.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Minimum Educational Requirements:

Master’s degree from an accredited institution with major in Education, Special Education, Psychology, Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling or a related field.

  • Knowledge of applicable disability law to include: Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as well as, demonstrated application of these laws.

    • Promote and moderate weekly meetings, invite guest speakers to weekly meetings in collaboration with student officers and members, organize and moderate monthly video speaker broadcasts (event planning and campus promotion/advertising).

    • Recruit new members via National Office – letters/email campaigns.

    • Participate in monthly conference call with National Office and other NSLS Advisors.

    • Provide feedback to members for their Success Networking Team submissions and reflections on video speaker broadcasts.

    • Moderate Orientation and Leadership Training Day for new members.

    • Plan and administer New Member Induction Ceremony (annual event).

  • Plan and implement the Avila Homecoming King & Queen nomination, voting and ceremony procedures.

  • Create leadership development workshops, materials and opportunities for Avila student leaders.

  • Facilitate needs assessment focus groups with student organization officers and advisors.

  • Promote, prepare an agenda, facilitate, take minutes and evaluate the Council of President’s (COP) meetings.

  • Update and maintain a student organization handbook.

  • Update and maintain a student organization advisor resource book.

  • Update and maintain a student organization officer/advisor list.

  • Update and maintain a student organization website.

  • Plan, promote, implement and evaluate Avila Field Day with other Graduate Assistant.

  • Participate in the Residence Life Senior Staff On-call rotation as scheduled by the Director of Residence Life (typically one or two weekends per month and one weekday per week) as well as on-call coverage of holiday and break periods as assigned.

  • Attend Residence Life staff meetings, Residence Life Senior Staff meetings, and regular 1:1 meetings with Director of Residence Life

  • 5 scheduled office hours per week in the Residence Life Office during regular business hours. These office hours may not be completed in one 5-hour shift, but are to be spread across multiple days covering the beginning and end of the week. Office hours are not to be scheduled at the same time as the Head Resident Assistant, unless permitted beforehand by Director of Residence Life.

  • Assist Director of Residence Life with conduct hearings and management of student discipline records.

  • Assist with opening and closing of buildings at the beginning and end of each semester, and all break periods. This includes assisting with Health and Safety checks, move-outs, and processing records related to student discipline, billing, occupancy, and other administrative tasks.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Life or the Director of Residence Life

Qualifications
The successful candidate for this position will possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree, and must be admitted to and enrolled in a graduate program at Avila University.  The candidate must maintain at minimum a 3.0 GPA.  A commitment to student development, higher education, creativity, vision, passion and compassion are imperative.

Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience in student activities is preferred.
Prior experience in residence life is preferred.

Salary
Compensation includes tuition remission for up to nine (9) graduate credit hours per semester, not to exceed eighteen (18) graduate credit hours per year, at Avila University.  

A one-bedroom apartment with private bath, a kitchen and access to laundry facilities is provided from August to the end of May.  All utilities, including cable television and high-speed internet, are included.  On-campus parking and meal plan provided.

Responsibilities
The graduate assistant athletic trainer works under the supervision of the fulltime staff athletic trainers and function in the same full capacity. Individuals are responsible for all aspects of comprehensive health care for all student-athletes including, but not limited to the prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. Candidates are required to excel in communication skills, punctuality, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Irregular work hours such as weekends, holidays, and evenings   are to be expected. Responsibilities also include some travel to away contests.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from a CAATE accredited athletic training program is required with successful passing of the BOC. Licensure through the Missouri State Board of Healing Arts is required.

Stipend provided

Benefits
Tuition waiver for 18 graduate credit hours per year, for 2 years.
This is a graduate assistant position; employment is incidental to the graduate educational experience.
