Visiting Assistant Professor in Theatre Design and Technology

Appointment Date
The appointment begins August 15, 2018. This position is a 9-month appointment with possibilities for transition to a tenure-track position.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 6 credits and design and assist/oversee the student designs and build of 2 main stage productions per semester. 
    Courses include Stagecraft, Stage Lighting, & a variety of upper-division design courses.

  • Effectively prepare the sets, lighting and sound for theatrical performances.

  • Effectively mentor, supervise, and coordinate the work of students and others.

  • Communicate well with others and maintain confidentiality.

  • Maintain all logistical elements of operating and maintaining Goppert Theatre and two smaller performance spaces.  This includes operating and maintaining a budget, care and maintenance of all equipment in the theatre and the scene shop, and ordering of equipment.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess a commitment to teach and work in a university environment, and a desire to engage both undergraduate students and the community.

 Required Qualifications: 

  • MFA in Theatre Design and Technology
  • Experience teaching design and technical theatre at the university level with record of excellence in teaching.
  • Experience supervising student projects.
  • Evidence of continued creative work and research in theatre.         
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate a spirit of collegiality. Positive, collaborative interactions with diverse populations—other performance faculty (musical theatre, music, and dance), faculty/staff/students across Avila University, and the public—is essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to network in the community to promote Avila Performing Arts.
  • Experience with stage management a plus.

  • 9-hour per semester teaching load, which includes introductory acting classes, other undergraduate courses consistent with the candidate’s training and interests, directing one main stage production a year, and assisting with production staff management and students for main stage productions.
  • Manager of Acting performance grants.
  • Network in the community to attract new students to the Avila Performing Arts curricular and co-curricular programming.  

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess a commitment to teach and work in a university environment, and a desire to engage both undergraduate students and the community.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Ph.D. in Theatre or MFA in Acting or Performance.
  • Experience teaching acting at the university level with record of excellence in teaching.
  • Evidence of continued creative work and research in theatre.         
  • Ability to network in the community to promote Avila Performing Arts.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate ability to work well with other artists and supervise student projects.

Responsibilities will include teaching introductory and upper-level Computer Science, Software Engineering, Database Management and Cybersecurity courses.  Candidates for the Assistant Professor position will be expected to apply innovative teaching techniques to course content and will supervise undergraduate research for majors.  The successful candidate will develop a Cybersecurity major, work with other faculty to develop a data management program and direct the online Computer Science program, which includes hiring and supervising adjuncts for developing and teaching courses.

The Library/Learning Commons Director provides leadership for the Hooley-Bundschu Library Learning Commons.  This position has oversight of the library staff and all initiatives working with faculty, students, and the community for services provided in the library.  Additionally, the Director is responsible for the development and implementation for strategic directions in line with the Avila University strategic plan.  This position works with the Associate Vice President for Information Services for oversight of the library/learning commons budget.

Qualifications
Master of Library Science degree from an accredited ALA institution required and a second Masters is preferred in a relevant field.  A record of success in increasingly responsible positions as a library administrator, with at least five years of upper-level leadership and at least two years of supervisory experience in an academic library setting.

The successful candidate will have a combination of academic library administrative background skills, a proven record of building strategic programs and partnerships across organizational boundaries. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate in their previous employment collaboration with faculty, students and staff and active participation in state, regional, and/or national library and professional organizations.

Responsibilities           

Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, is responsible for the general repair and maintenance of the building equipment. Primary responsibilities: Operates and maintains all HVAC equipment, including but not limited to: Chillers, boilers, condensers, fin-tube, PTAC units, air handlers, and associated control systems. This full time employee also repairs and installs electrical equipment, such as electrical outlets, ballasts, circuit breakers, etc, and other electrical systems equipment; repairs plumbing: sinks, traps, toilets, urinals, flush valves, supply valves, etc. and water fountains.; painting and patchwork to maintain buildings in good condition as needed; performs locksmith responsibilities; carpentry work and repairs to sidewalks and parking lots. Performs maintenance of buildings and grounds, such as snow removal. Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications         

Must have knowledge of MEP: HVAC, electrical, plumbing systems, related tools and their uses, and carpentry. Ability to repeatedly lift up to 60 lbs, stand and/or wait for long periods, perform the mentioned tasks while in various physical positions, and climb up to 15 ft. ladder. Ability to follow both oral and written directions, work with and take direction from staff; have basic computer skills. Read blueprints and equipment specification/operation manuals. Experience and/or coursework in Ammonia Refrigeration and Boiler operations also required. High School/GED required. Substantial maintenance experience in above mentioned tasks. Must pass a background check for criminal records.
