Position Available: Avila University invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the College of Professional Schools. Preferred start for this position is July 1, 2020 or as negotiated with the successful candidate.

Opportunity Overview:

The Dean serves as the academic and administrative leader of the College of Professional Schools to advocate for the mission, purpose, and support of the programs of the College, including business, education, communication and art. The College is organized in three Schools (School of Business, School of Education, and the School of Visual and Communication Arts), each with an operational chair reporting to the Dean, and the Avila Institute for Professional Studies (adult and online formats of discipline programs from across the university).   The College is one of three colleges of the university, including the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and the College of Science and Health.

This position reports directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and works collaboratively with the deans and senior administrators across the institution to provide effective leadership. The Dean exercises responsibility over all internal and external activities impacting the College, implementation of the various School strategic plans, and financial management of the College budget lines. The Dean should market the College effectively to enhance enrollment, and develop and maintain partnerships with external business and education associates that further the strategic directions of the College in line with the strategic direction of the University. In collaboration with the Office of Advancement and the Office of Academic Affairs, he/she will work to identify priorities, to secure philanthropic support for teaching, research, program development, professional development, facilities (maintaining and developing), scholarships, and other needs.

Responsibilities:

 Academic Leadership and Management:

  • In collaboration with the Chairs, oversee budgets and financial projections, maintain effective academic advising, and facilitate the ongoing evaluation of curricula for the College’s various programs. Additionally the Dean will ensure compliance with the accreditation and licensure requirements and regulations for college programs.
  • Promote shared governance within the College and foster transparency in decision-making and respect for opinions and voices.
  • Collaborate with other deans to achieve the academic mission of the University and work across disciplines to create and/or sustain programs. Additionally, he/she will demonstrate team building and exercise creativity, vision, and an entrepreneurial spirit in achieving goals.

Faculty and Staff Support and Oversight:

  • Promote excellence in teaching, research and scholarship, and engaged service.
  • Ensure faculty receive mentoring and have opportunities for leadership, scholarship, and professional development.
  • Provide oversight and support of faculty with regard to recruitment/hiring, reappointment, tenure, and promotion and tenure.
  • Provide oversight and management of staff in all programs.
  • External Partnerships and Support:
  • Build partnerships in the external community working collaboratively with regional education, business, and communication/art organizations.
  • Play a major leadership role in procuring resources for the College’s current and future programs

Qualifications, Experience, and Attributes:

The successful applicant will have an earned doctoral degree or terminal degree from an accredited university in a discipline represented in one of the three Schools in the College of Professional Schools (business, education, communication or art).

He/she will have a record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and research that warrants appointment as an associate or full professor. Previous successful administrative leadership, including management of budgets, personnel, curriculum, innovative teaching, and leadership of undergraduate, graduate, adult and online programs is preferred. This is a 12-month position with faculty status and rank.

This position calls for an individual who will support the mission and values of Avila University and embody these in the operation and leadership of the College. The strong candidate will have the ability to foster collegiality and cooperation with the faculty. He/she will also have a record of successful collaboration within the business and education community as well as experience in resource development. Specific qualifications include familiarity with best practices in enhancing student success, retention, persistence, and graduation. The well-qualified candidate will have an understanding of both undergraduate and graduate education, including professional degree programs in the College. Experience with institutional and program accreditation and licensure is needed. Responsibilities: The School of Education at Avila University in Kansas City, Missouri, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Education. An Elementary and/or Special Education educator is sought to teach 12 hours per semester in undergraduate and graduate programs, supervise student teachers, advise education majors and participate in activities and committees of the School of Education and the University.

Qualifications:

Required:  Candidates must possess a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in the field of education, hold a current Kansas and/or Missouri state teaching license and have experience as a regular Elementary and Special Education teacher in K-12 education. Candidates must demonstrate strong pedagogical skills using a multitude of instructional delivery modes including technology. Candidates must possess effective interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills and an ability to build partnerships with K-12 schools.

Preferred:  The successful candidate will preferably have experience with students at both elementary and secondary levels, experience teaching at the college level.

Main responsibilities include the following:

  • Coordinates all circulation activities including the promotion and maintenance of books, reserves, journals, closed stacks, newspapers, and laptops. Responsible for training, scheduling, and supervising: student staff, graduate assistants and part time evening library personnel. This position will Implement and update student and staff procedures working collaboratively with the library team as well as gather statistics and data for the end of year report.
  • Collects fines and coordinates reporting with the Business Office.
  • Supervises check-in and shelving of print materials.
  • Participates as a member of the library team and contributes to the development of departmental goals objectives, policies, procedures, and service standards. Participates as a member of the Kansas City Access Committee and MOBIUS Access Groups.
  • Assists patrons with questions and queries; provides information regarding library system policies and procedures. Database instruction to students, staff and faculty in formal and informal settings.

Qualifications:

Experience: 5 years of progressive experience in a library setting.

Director of Donor Relations

Responsibilities:

The Director of Donor Relations is a mid-level position that plays a critical role in retaining and increasing revenue from existing mid-level donors to support Avila’s mission, and identifying and qualifying donors who may have an affinity to become major donors. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and enthusiastic development professional to be a part of an emerging program that will provide personal attention to donors giving between $250-$2,500 with a goal of increasing their giving. The Director of Donor Relations will work collaboratively with the Senior Director of Development & Planned Giving and the Senior Director Alumni Relations & Annual Giving to develop, implement and assess strategies to increase giving and engagement.

Principle Responsibilities:

  1. In collaboration with Advancement leadership, the Director of Donor Relations identifies, puts into place and evaluates an annual plan for a multi-segment mid-level donor program designed to meet the fundraising needs of Avila University.
  2. Personally manage a portfolio of ~600 donors giving $250 - $2,500 to maximize annual revenue.
  3. Participate in and plays a coordinating role in monthly portfolio meetings focused on plans for cultivation, stewardship and solicitation of mid-level and major donors.
  4. Builds relationships with mid-level donors via phone calls, in-person visits, personalized email communications, ongoing written contact, and events.
  5. Develop outreach plans that demonstrate appreciation, recognition, and engagement of mid-level donors and prospects.
  6. Develop and run outreach programs (i.e., monthly giving and athletic booster club) to engage mid-level donors.
  7. Promote and engage donors in Avila’s planned giving program. Assist the Sr. Director of Development in identifying new strategies to increase planned gifts, coordinate planned giving communications and help execute existing and new events for planned giving donors and prospects.
  8. Analyze mid-level donor trends throughout the year to assess results and interprets data to recommend and implement appropriate changes to targets or adjustments in strategies.
  9. Work with leadership to forecast mid-level program revenue and expenses.
  10. Serve as subject matter expert on mid-level donor management and keeps abreast of industry best-practices.
  11. Contribute to team effort by accomplishing other assignments and special tasks as requested.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree and CFRE certification preferred.

 Minimum two to five years proven experience in securing annual, major and/or planned gifts and meeting fundraising goals.

Must have strong interpersonal skills; pay close attention to detail; manage complex tasks and meet deadlines; and have the ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic team. Must be self-motivated and disciplined to achieve goals. Exceptional customer service.

Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends as needed; proficiency with Raiser’s Edge as well as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint a plus. Ability to complete your own administrative tasks. Some travel may be required.

Responsibilities:   The Head Athletic Trainer reports to the Director of Athletics, and assists in all aspects of athletic training and is responsible for time management, budgeting and athletic training facility management.

Duties:

*Provide Athletic training services for intercollegiate sports, evaluation and treatment of injuries, designing and supervising rehabilitation programs, pre-practice and game preparations and referral of student-athletes to appropriate Physicians.

*Maintaining computerized medical records and documenting athletic training needs on injured student-athletes to coaches,

*Athletic Training coverage includes practices, games (home and some away) and postseason competition.

*Become familiar with NAIA and KCAC policies and regulations.

Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in athletic training from an accredited college/university and Athletic Training Certification by the Board of Certification is required. Experience working in a college setting. Must be eligible for licensure in the State of Missouri and be current on training certifications in First Aid, CPR and AED.
