The Community
The Kansas City metropolitan area includes cities in both Missouri and Kansas, and some say it takes both states to accommodate the countless entertainment offerings. The approximately 1.8 million residents enjoy everything from world-class museums to professional sporting events, a thriving arts community to car racing, classical opera to fine dining.  Kansas City may be set in the heart of America, but it cannot hide its European flair. Known as the City of Fountains, the community has more working water sculptures than any city but Rome, and it boasts more boulevards than Paris.  It’s one of America’s biggest and brightest metropolitan areas.

About Avila University
Avila is a Catholic university sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. It was founded in 1916 and its mission is to provide undergraduate and graduate education in the liberal arts and professional studies, preparing lifelong learners who make meaningful contributions to the global community. This first reflects a commitment to the full development of its students; mind, body, and spirit and secondly a commitment to prepare its students to become leaders both in Kansas City and the broader world. It acknowledges that leadership is based on being innovative and transformational in one’s work and focused on service, especially to “the dear neighbor” as is characteristic of the Sisters of St. Joseph.

Avila is located on a 50-acre campus on the historic Santa Fe Trail in a beautiful setting in south Kansas City, Mo. The University currently enrolls approximately 1,800 students, 75 percent enrolled as undergraduate students in 30 majors and 25 percent enrolled as graduate students in five graduate programs; nearly a third are first generation college students, approximately 40% are Pell grant eligible, and over 40% represent diversity.

In the Fall of 2017, the University announced the Avila Promise, an enrollment initiative focused on affordability and student success. The Promise reduced tuition for incoming traditional undergraduates by 33% (including books and standard university fees in that tuition), and added four promises that include a guarantee that tuition increases would be no more than 3% a year over the student’s enrollment at Avila, a guarantee of on-time graduation (tied to 15 to Finish course maps for all majors), a guaranteed internship or practicum in one’s area of study, and a guarantee of a travel or research grant of up to $1,000 for academic/course related experiences.

Over the next few years, it is anticipated that Avila will add other elements to the Promise and extend it to cover adult and non-traditional students (in addition to full time undergraduate students).  The Vice President for Enrollment Management will play a key role in the design and marketing of these new elements.
