Full-time tenure-track Nursing Faculty

Position Available: Full-time tenure-track nursing faculty with clinical expertise in medical-surgical, and/or obstetrics. This is a 10 month/year position.

Appointment Date: August 2020

Responsibilities:

  • Teach both theory and clinical practicum courses in the Avila School of Nursing.
  • Participate in developing, implementing, and assessing nursing course(s) in a concept based curriculum.
  • Create an environment in the classroom and health care agency which facilitates student learning.
  • Serve as a professional role model for nursing students.
  • Motivate students to think, to question, and to critically analyze.

Qualifications:

  • Full time faculty will be academically and experientially qualified and maintain expertise in areas of responsibility.
  • A Doctoral degree is preferred. Minimum of a master’s degree required.
  • Teaching experience desirable, preferably in baccalaureate education.
  • Ability to work effectively with others in a wide variety of clinical settings.
  • Current undisciplined license to practice professional nursing in Missouri.
  • Current undisciplined license to practice professional nursing in Kansas, or willingness to obtain.

Salary: Competitive within the Kansas City area.

Upward Bound Academic Coordinator

Position Available: Upward Bound Academic Coordinator

Appointment Date: Open until filled

Responsibilities: Avila University seeks applicants for a full-time academic coordinator for a federally grant-funded Department of Education, TRIO Upward Bound (UB) program. The UB program serves 74 first generation and limited income students. The purpose of Upward Bound is to increase student access and success at a postsecondary institution as well as ensure academic success in high school and college readiness.

  • Maintain student records and document all contacts
  • Oversee tutoring component of academic year which includes the advertising, interviewing, hiring and training of all tutors as well as the locations and time of when/where tutoring will be held.
  • Oversee ACT prep (hiring of instructors and scheduling when/where these workshops occur) as well as assisting in ACT registrations
  • Individual advising to ensure students meet a rigorous curriculum
  • Assist in planning of UB activities based on student needs
  • Assist in the planning of a six-week residential component
  • Oversee the academic component of the summer which include creating the course schedules, hiring and training of instructors and ensuring students are progressing through courses adequately.
  • Assist in the planning of the end of year trip, and attend
  • Plan and organize monthly academic workshops based on student needs
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of Saturday Seminars
  • Requires some nights and weekends, travel required for student activities and professional development.
  • Other duties as needed by supervisor

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, social sciences, or related fields

Skills: Must be motivated, have meticulous attention to detail, have interpersonal, organizational and communication skills. The ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic team is necessary. Excellent writing skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office. Access to various college access, tutoring and ACT resources.

Experience:   Experience in overcoming barriers or working with individuals similar to those of the target population; experience in programming and presenting, advising, tutoring, and ACT prep. Experience working collaboratively with diverse groups including students, administrators and external service providers.
