Avila University is seeking applicants with experience in the field of genomics for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biology appointment to begin August, 2018. Responsibilities include teaching the introductory biology sequence (cells, genes, ecology, and evolution), as well as upper-level biology electives and associated labs. Candidates for the Assistant Professor position will work closely with other science faculty to establish and meet departmental goals, including (1) ensuring a rigorous undergraduate research program for Biology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB), and Pre-Health students; (2) providing Biology, BMB, and Pre-Health students with cutting-edge exposure to the full scope of contemporary biological inquiry; and (3) anticipating exciting new directions in the rapidly changing field of biology.

The successful candidate will apply innovative teaching techniques to course content and will supervise undergraduate research for biology and related majors. Other specific responsibilities include:

  • Teach 12 credit hours or the equivalent per semester.
  • Participate in curriculum development.
  • Engage in service to the university, including participation in faculty, staff, school, and departmental meetings.
  • Provide academic advising for areas such as biology, biochemistry and molecular biology, and pre-health students.
  • Assist with recruitment and retention of students to STEM programs.
  • Participate in professional activities including research and attendance at workshops and meetings.

Experience with data collection and analysis are essential to the Center's effort to report on students' employment and graduate school outcomes

Responsibilities           

Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, is responsible for the general repair and maintenance of the building equipment. Primary responsibilities: Operates and maintains all HVAC equipment, including but not limited to: Chillers, boilers, condensers, fin-tube, PTAC units, air handlers, and associated control systems. This full time employee also repairs and installs electrical equipment, such as electrical outlets, ballasts, circuit breakers, etc, and other electrical systems equipment; repairs plumbing: sinks, traps, toilets, urinals, flush valves, supply valves, etc. and water fountains.; painting and patchwork to maintain buildings in good condition as needed; performs locksmith responsibilities; carpentry work and repairs to sidewalks and parking lots. Performs maintenance of buildings and grounds, such as snow removal. Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications         

Must have knowledge of MEP: HVAC, electrical, plumbing systems, related tools and their uses, and carpentry. Ability to repeatedly lift up to 60 lbs, stand and/or wait for long periods, perform the mentioned tasks while in various physical positions, and climb up to 15 ft. ladder. Ability to follow both oral and written directions, work with and take direction from staff; have basic computer skills. Read blueprints and equipment specification/operation manuals. Experience and/or coursework in Ammonia Refrigeration and Boiler operations also required. High School/GED required. Substantial maintenance experience in above mentioned tasks. Must pass a background check for criminal records.

Avila University, a NAIA member institution is seeking applicants for the position of Graduate Assistant Women’s Volleyball Coach. The responsibilities of the assistant coach are to support the head coach in all phases of a program. Duties included but not limited to: practice/game preparation, scheduling training & conditioning sessions, recruiting, team travel, and academic monitoring & mentoring. Irregular work hours such as weekends, holidays, and/or evenings will be needed.

Qualifications        

The successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university, previous college volleyball playing experience, and acceptance, or the ability to be accepted, into an Avila University graduate program. Preference is given to those that have collegiate experience and/or 1-2 years at the club level or above. Candidates must have an understanding of the mission of Avila University, strong communication skills, work ethic, experience working with a diverse population and a passionate commitment to the student-athlete experience.

Eighteen (18) graduate level credit hours/year and stipend.

Basic Job Duties

    • Reviews all catering function sheets daily. Meet with Assistant Manager to review event.
    • Meet with HOH to assure production for event is completed and delivered on time.
    • Set up & breakdown Special Events on time.
    • Keep catering crew busy and assure they are in proper uniform.
    • Make sure menu is known & servers know what is being served for the event.
    • Make 360’s to assure everything is ready; food, utensils, beverages, china or plastic ware. 
    • Assure all products are labeled.
    • Discuss future catering events with management & assure function sheets are posted.
    • Assure labor is in line.
    • All catering equipment & décor is stored properly.
    • Ensures that all catering associates are keeping catering storeroom organized.
    • Linen is taken to back dock and skirts are stored properly.
    • Maintain high levels of cleanliness, efficiency & safety by setting the example for all employees.
    • Keep sanitation levels in the highest standings.
    • Co-Oversee catering events with management.
    • Train & develop subordinates with respect to job duties.
    • Supervises staff personnel assigned to catering events.
    • Sole responsibility of events when management is not present.
    • Assist with managing of the unit, when no catering is scheduled, concessions included.
    • When not catering; Cover shifts to assist with labor costs of the unit.
    • Check out employees before leaving if no other manager is available to check them out.
    • Schedule: Adjusted with catering events. Must be able to work all shifts. Flexible availability needed to full-fill job duties.
    • Attends management weekly meeting.

Responsibilities  

Primary job duties will be to work night shifts. Candidate will be responsible for preparing meals for the unit, catering functions, maintaining sanitation standards, assisting with concessions catering functions. Sole responsibility of the kitchen when working weekend shifts. See job description below for more details. 

Qualifications  

Candidates must be customer focused, have experience in food service and must have great culinary skills.  Successful candidates must be able to read, write and follow verbal and written instructions. Job duties require standing, lifting and carrying items of 25-50 lbs. Position hours will cover the following shifts: Sundays, 2-8pm, Monday – Thursday, 11-8pm. 35-40 hours per week. Candidates must be willing to be in charge of kitchen in absence of management. Must be able to pass a criminal and sexual offender registry background report. A Kansas City Manager Food Handlers Card or ServSafe Certificate will be required.

Salary  

DOE:  Range is $11-$12

The University will host a visit February 26-27, 2018 with a team representing the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). Avila University has been accredited by HLC since 1946. The team will review the institution’s ongoing ability to meet HLC’s Criteria for Accreditation.
