Opportunity Overview
The Dean serves as the academic and administrative leader of the College of Professional to advocate for the mission, purpose, and support of the programs of the College, including business, education, communication and art.  The College is organized in three Schools (School of Business, School of Education, and the School of Visual and Communication Arts), each with an operational chair reporting to the Dean, and the Avila Institute for Professional Studies (adult and online formats of discipline programs from across the university).   The College is one of three colleges of the university, including the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and the College of Science and Health. 

This position reports directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and works collaboratively with the deans and senior administrators across the institution to provide effective leadership.  The Dean exercises responsibility over all internal and external activities impacting the College, implementation of the various School strategic plans, and financial management of the College budget lines.  The Dean should market the College effectively to enhance enrollment, and develop and maintain partnerships with external business and education associates that further the strategic directions of the College in line with the strategic direction of the University. In collaboration with the Office of Advancement and the Office of Academic Affairs, he/she will work to identify priorities, to secure philanthropic support for teaching, research, program development, professional development, facilities (maintaining and developing), scholarships, and other needs.

  • In collaboration with the Chairs, oversee budgets and financial projections, maintain effective academic advising, and facilitate the ongoing evaluation of curricula for the College’s various programs.   • Collaborate with other deans to achieve the academic mission of the University and work across disciplines to create and/or sustain programs. Additionally, he/she will demonstrate team building and exercise creativity, vision, and an entrepreneurial spirit in achieving goals.

Faculty and Staff Support and Oversight:

  • Promote excellence in teaching, research and scholarship, and engaged service.

  • Ensure faculty receive mentoring and have opportunities for leadership, scholarship, and professional development.

  • Provide oversight and support of faculty with regard to recruitment/hiring, reappointment, tenure, and promotion and tenure.

  • Provide oversight and management of staff in all programs.

The successful applicant will have an earned doctoral degree or terminal degree from an accredited university in a discipline represented in one of the three Schools in the College of Professional Schools (business, education, communication or art). 

He/she will have a record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and research that warrants appointment as an associate or full professor. Previous successful administrative leadership, including management of budgets, personnel, curriculum, innovative teaching, and leadership of undergraduate, graduate, adult and online programs is preferred.  This is a 12-month position with faculty status and rank.

This position calls for an individual who will support the mission and values of Avila University and embody these in the operation and leadership of the College.  The strong candidate will have the ability to foster collegiality and cooperation with the faculty. He/she will also have a record of successful collaboration within the business and education community as well as experience in resource development. Qualifications

Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Director of Campus Services, is responsible for the general maintenance of the physical plants, equipment and grounds. This full time employee repairs and installs electrical equipment, such as electrical outlets, ballasts, circuit breakers, etc., and other electrical systems equipment; repairs plumbing: sinks, traps, toilets, urinals, flush valves, supply valves, etc. and water fountains. Repairs and maintains building equipment; painting and patchwork to maintain buildings in good condition as needed; performs locksmith responsibilities; carpentry work and repairs to sidewalks and parking lots. Performs maintenance of buildings and grounds, such as snow removal.

Qualifications
Must have knowledge of plumbing systems, related tools and their uses, electrical systems, and carpentry. Ability to repeatedly lift up to 60 lbs., stand and/or wait for long periods, perform the mentioned tasks while in various physical positions, and climb up to 15 ft. on a ladder. Ability to follow both oral and written directions, work with and take direction from staff; have basic computer skills. Read blueprints and equipment specification/operation manuals. Experience and/or coursework in Ammonia Refrigeration and Boiler operations also required. High School/GED. Substantial maintenance experience in above mentioned tasks. Must pass a background check for criminal records.

As the Athletic Director, the successful candidate will bring a level of integrity, athletic excellence and academic success to the position, along with successful donor engagement and sponsorship experience in leading this NAIA athletic program with fourteen teams and 380 student athletes. The Athletic Director will foster relationships with university constituent groups, hire and supervise coaches who are committed to the university mission and core values, student and team success. The successful candidate will have prior experience in athletic administration and coaching. This is an administrative position that requires outstanding leadership and management skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Recruits, hires and manages coaching staff who work to field competitive teams that focus on student success and provide an overall engaging campus experience for the student athlete.

  • Manages budgets and assists with scholarship funding development.

  • Maintains compliance with all relevant agencies: governmental, NAIA, conference and institutional.

  • Annually reviews the effectiveness of the athletic organization. Sets performance expectations, looks for opportunities for effective uses of resources and student talent.

  • Promotes an environment that is respectful towards others and instills integrity and institutional values in all student-athletes

  • Create a clear, short and long-term vision for the athletic department. Communicate and adapt it overtime to the changing environmental needs of Avila, market, and overall higher education.

  • Chair the Athletic Eligibility Committee and work closely with the Faculty Athletics Representatives, Registrar, faculty, and coaches to ensure accurate eligibility reports and assessments.

  • Overall oversight of all game and travel scheduling, rosters and all other administrative duties

  • Coordinate and work with Advancement for an effective Eagles Athletic Club operation to increase community visibility and support, including annual fiscal support. 

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Required, Master’s Preferred

  • Experience in NAIA athletic programs is required.

  • Minimum five years’ experience as an Assistant AD, or Athletic Director or similar position required. Prior coaching experience preferred.

Additional Experience and Skill Set:

  • Prior knowledge and experience in successful fund raising for athletic departments

  • Knowledge of Title IX regulations and NAIA policies.

  • Ability to lead and manages a team of full and part-time staff.

  • Strong fiscal/budget skills and experience working with developing athletic scholarships

  • Demonstrated high energy for the college's student centered mission-driven, culture, experience working with coaches to field successful teams, and for raising the college's profile through the academic and athletic success of its athletes.

  • Critical to this position is leadership, enthusiasm, flexibility, and responsiveness.

  • Attention to detail, initiative, decision making, and follow-through are all skill sets necessary for success in this position

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment is a must

Responsibilities
Reporting to the Circulation Manager the Part Time Evening/Weekend Library Assistant  is responsible for courteous and efficient services to library patrons.  Responsible for helping patron’s access library materials and using databases, as well as performing a variety of library circulation duties including answering user questions, checking materials in and out of the library; greeting visitors, assisting with room reservations, reporting maintenance and IT issues when appropriate.  Will be responsible for accepting and recording fines, closing and/or opening the library, upholding Library policy and procedures.  The incumbents will respond and follow protocol for emergency alarms like fire or tornado.  Hours are primarily weekends with one evening a week and may fluctuate according to library needs.  Additional hours may be required during peak times (finals or special events).  Other duties as assigned.  This position is responsible for covering the hours of Saturday 10:00 AM- 5:00 PM, Sunday 12:00-5:30 PM and Tuesday 5:00-11:00 PM. 

Provides comprehensive circulation services to library users, including checking materials in and out of the library, updating user records, and resolving user disputes.

Answers basic directional and reference questions at the service desk.

Opens and closes building following a checklist.

Monitors security of the building by registering visitors, responding to complaints, and walking through the building. Contacts appropriate personnel when needed. Coordinates evacuation of building in an emergency.

Collects fine payments; records transactions.

Completes other projects as assigned. 

Performs other duties as assigned.

Ability to multi-task with frequent interruptions.

Demonstrable computer skills: typing, basics in Microsoft Office in order trouble-shoot patrons having issues.

Working knowledge of a library.

Computer literacy including the use of e-mail, word processing, and spreadsheets.

Ability to maneuver 35 lb. book carts and move books, including reaching and lifting.

Ability to work independently and to use good judgement to resolve problems.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the University Community.

Campus Safety Officer

Responsibilities
The Safety Officer will have a passion for serving students, faculty and staff and integrity in ensuring a safe campus environment.  Major responsibilities include patrolling facility or man post as instructed and serve as a general security presence and visible deterrent to crime and campus policy violations; detect suspicious activities and watch for criminal acts or campus policy violations at or near assigned post which may be a threat to the property, students or employees on campus; locking and unlocking campus buildings; report all incidents, accidents or medical emergencies; respond to emergencies, such as medical issues and community threats such as fire alarms and by following emergency response procedures.

Currently, a full-time position is available. The Campus Safety Department operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This current position provides staffing coverage during overnights and during weekends; may be needed to rotate to different shifts for vacations and University events. Security patrols are 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED, or at least 10 years of verifiable employment history

  • 1+ years of experience in related field/or bachelor’s degree in field.

  • Knowledge of crime prevention, liability and risk management as they apply to the safety and security fields, in particular to the needs of a university setting.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing for the purpose of public interaction and report writing and an interest in being in collaborative service to a university community.

Responsibilities
The Vice President for Finance and Administration, serving as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), reports directly to the President and leads all aspects of the financial life of the University. The Vice President of Administration and Finance is responsible for the management, direction, control and coordination for administrative and financial activities of the University. 

The Vice President for Finance and Administration provides executive level direction and management oversight for the following functions: financial planning and analysis, budgeting, accounting and business operations, financial reporting, internal controls and compliance, investment oversight and treasury functions, debt management, human resources, risk management and insurance, space planning and construction, facilities and grounds operations, purchasing and contracts, mail services, bookstore operations, food service and other auxiliary enterprises. Other functions may fall under the purview of this role depending upon the strengths and knowledge of the selected candidate.

This position also serves as the liaison to the Board of Trustees for all aspects of finance and facilities including performing as the staff lead for the Finance Committee, Investments Sub-Committee, Audit Committee, and the Facilities and Planning Committee.

Along with other members of the President's cabinet, the Vice President is responsible for leading Avila’s mission, vision and values, as well as embracing the ministry of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet who founded Avila more than 100 years ago to promote the unity of neighbor with God and neighbor serving neighbor without distinction.

Qualifications
Candidates that possess a master’s degree in a field appropriate to the responsibilities of the position and those that have achieved a Certified Public Accountant credential or possess another similar credential are preferred. Candidates with a bachelor’s degree combined with extensive applicable administration experience will also be considered. The candidate must also have at least five years of experience in senior higher education administration or similar finance administrative experience in business or non-profit management, including significant proven experience in supervision and upper-level management that demonstrates the ability to:

  • Sustain good interpersonal relationships with professional colleagues, the University community, and a diverse set of stakeholders.

  • Interpret the mission, educational role, and agenda of the University to diverse audiences.

Position Summary
The Grant Manager is responsible for identifying, developing, writing and editing corporate, foundation and government grants, as well as helping to manage grants post-award to meet Avila University’s fundraising goals. 

Principle Responsibilities

  1. Develop, write and edit grant proposals and reports. Submit at least 75 proposals/year, including four federal proposals/year.
  2. Proactively seek to identify new prospects including corporate, foundation and government sources.
  3. Manage the entire grant process from pre-proposal concept development to post-award grant management and reporting. This includes identification, research, writing, editing, budget development, submission and reporting. These activities should be done in collaboration with other appropriate University faculty and staff.
  4. Ensure grant proposals/applications and reports are submitted on time and accurately.
  5. Work with external fundraising consultants to identify new federal grant opportunities. Serve as the point-of-contact during the grant writing process. Submit four federal grant proposals per year, in collaboration with the consultants and University stakeholders.
  6. Assist with other writing projects, like case statements, Accent magazine articles, etc., as needed.
  7. Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree; GPC or CFRE certification preferred.

Experience: Minimum three years of successful documented corporate/foundation fundraising experience, preferably in higher education. 

Skills: Must have strong writing, communication and listening skills; pay close attention to detail; manage complex tasks and meet deadlines; and have the ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic team. Must be self-motivated and disciplined to achieve goals.

Other: Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends as needed; proficiency with Raiser’s Edge as well as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint a plus. Some travel required.

Responsibilities
The Director of Student Financial Services provides leadership and is responsible for the day-to day performance of the Student Financial Services Office including the functions of financial aid and management of student accounts.  Manages all department personnel, records, systems, and funds.  Compiles and submits all required financial aid related reports and applications including FISAP, IPEDS, and the Reapplication to Participate in Title IV Programs.  The position supervises billing and collections of student account balances and manages the University’s portfolio of Perkins loans.  Under the guidance of the new Director, the Student Financial Services Department is expected to continue or exceed its current level of excellence as evidenced by its outstanding customer service, the university's low Stafford Loan default rate and record of no material audit findings.  The Director of Student Financial Services reports to the Vice President of Enrollment Management and directly supervises a staff of six.

Qualifications
Applicants must be a multi-tasking, self-motivating financial aid professional with proven leadership skills.  Possess a Bachelor's Degree (Master's Degree preferred) and have three to five years of financial aid experience (5+ years preferred), including previous experience managing a staff of professionals.  The successful candidate must also possess excellent oral and written skills, robust computer skills to include setting up and rolling of award years and packaging rules in financial aid software, and extensive work in Department of Education systems. 

Experience working with Jenzabar, Power Faids, ImageNow, and Department of Education Software along with InfoMaker Report Writer preferred.
