More than 20 students in the Avila School of Education earned their teaching certifications this December, with nearly half already working in the classroom. While the process for those students completing their certification requirements—or completers—remained the same, the need for teachers and substitutes increased this year due to the pandemic.
“We found that due to CoVID, the mid-year needs in our partner schools and districts were far greater at this time of year,” said Alicia Murillo, Director of Assessment & Accreditation for the School of Education. “Because these Avila graduates have experience student-teaching in the hybrid learning environment we’ve experienced this year, they have the needed skills to support students and schools quickly.”
With 10 students having already gained teaching positions for Kansas City area public, private and charter schools, the Avila School of Education continues to be vital to primary and secondary education in both Missouri and Kansas.
