Tim Hackett, B.S.; M.S. (Journalism)

Sports Information Director/Instructor

Tim Hackett has served in his dual roles as an instructor in Avila’s School of Visual Arts and Communications and Sports Information Director/Director of Game Day Operations for Avila Athletics since 2020. Tim graduated with both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism in 2019 and has reported on a wide variety of topics in his career, including news, politics, crime, sports, entertainment and business.


A native of Raleigh, North Carolina, Tim has covered sports in some capacity every year since his sophomore year in high school. He’s served as a studio host for the Houston Cougars for Learfield/IMG College, a play-by-play commentator, statistician and studio host for the Simulation Football League, play-by-play announcer and lead writer for hillsboroughsports.com, and Sports Director for the radio station WNUR at Northwestern, in addition to roles with the Wisconsin Woodchucks of the Northwoods League, Sports Illustrated, and the Durham Bulls.
Tim anchors the Sports Communication concentration in VisCom at Avila while also managing all communications and game day operations for all of Avila’s varsity athletic teams.
