Avila University seeks a collaborative, forward-thinking and strategic leader to serve as Vice President for Finance and Administrative Services / Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Reporting to the President, and a member of the President’s executive team, the CFO will provide executive level direction and management oversight for the following functions: financial planning and analysis, budgeting, accounting and business operations, financial reporting, internal controls and compliance, investment oversight and treasury functions, debt management, student accounts, human resources, risk management and insurance, space planning and construction, facilities and grounds operations, purchasing and contracts, mail services, bookstore operations, food service and other auxiliary enterprises.

The CFO serves as the President’s chief advisor with respect to financial matters and helps shape the Board of Trustees’ understanding of the nature and measurements associated with successful financial performance. He or she will also collaborate with university leaders and other stakeholders to advance academic and university success. Working with the executive team, the successful candidate will engender deeper financial acumen, ownership of the budget components, and collaboratively engage team members in the shaping of the University’s financial plans. He or she will serve in a critical leadership role as the institution continues to develop an ambitious strategic plan guided by a set of initiatives built on the University's strengths. The CFO will bring new insights and creative ideas to help lead a university with very good financial performance to levels of greatness.

Recent financial milestones include:

  • Total operating revenue has increased from $23.6 million in fiscal year 2010 to $27.4 million in fiscal year 2014; 

  • The University has completed year four of its seven-year, $43 million Centennial Campaign; a comprehensive fundraising endeavor that includes funding for scholarships, programs, capital improvements and endowment;

  • The Strategic Plan for the University is currently under revision while a multi-year master plan is developed simultaneously.  

A demonstrated commitment to student success is foundational for the successful candidate, while inspiring the staff, and working collaboratively with the President and leadership team to fulfill the University's mission while developing and successfully deploying the strategic plan. The ideal candidate will drive performance of certain key metrics.

     

Required qualifications, skills and accomplishments:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Master’s preferred) and/or a CPA

  • Ten or more years of progressive, directly-related experience, preferably but not exclusively in higher education finance and business affairs

  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing strategic plans

  • Good evaluative judgment

  • A history of developing and implementing effective solutions for business challenges

  • Strong technical, analytical, and communication skills

  • Desire and ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively and have an understanding of, and commitment to, private higher education

At least 3 years of experience working in the instructional technology field and/or providing technical training in group and individualized sessions.

Responsibilities  

The Learning Architect works directly with the Director of the Center for Transformational Learning to support the improvement of teaching and learning on campus and online. The Learning Architect is responsible for overseeing the planning, conducting of analysis, design, and development of learning products (e.g., academic learning venues) through close collaboration with faculty and staff. The Learning Architect is the subject matter expert in digital product design, on campus courses and learning theories. In addition he/she works closely with the Director of the Center for Transformational Learning to support institutional approval of learning materials, informal learning (e.g. demonstration labs, instructional methods and strategies collection and dissemination, and learning communities), and knowledge sharing systems.

Qualifications  

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:
Minimum of Master’s Degree in Education, Instructional Design, or related field; Doctorate Degree preferred

EXPERIENCE:
At least 3 years experience working in a field of instructional design or related area. Working in an institution of higher education is preferred.
