Responsibilities  

Avila University, a Catholic University in Kansas City, invites applications for an exciting opportunity in our accredited undergraduate Social Work Program.   The person hired for this position will join our regionally recognized department as a part-time Assistant Director of Field Education. This adjunct instructor position is task-focused across the fall and spring semesters of each academic year.  Roles and duties include:

  • Adjunct Instructor role (minimum 4 hours/week on campus + prep time) – Teach a two-credit seminar course and oversee a four-credit field experience course each fall and spring semester.  Responsibilities, in addition to teaching weekly include updating master syllabi for courses, grading assignments, conducting weekly office hours, and compiling course data for use in program assessment.  Also includes conducting two agency site visits (approximately 1 hour/ visit) per student in the fall, and one in the spring to monitor student progress in field courses.
  • Assistant Director of Field Education role (minimum 6 hours/week on campus) – Collaborate with Director of Field Education to facilitate field orientation meetings, update and revise forms, manuals, and training materials.  Oversee finalization of student placements during spring semester.
Recruitment role (approximately 1 hour/visit + drive time) – Arranges and conducts presentations at regional community colleges to educate pre-social work students about Avila’s BSW Program, especially affordability and quality.
Qualifications  

MSW or MSSW from a CSWE-accredited program with minimum of two years post-master’s work experience in social work.   Previous higher education teaching experience also required.  The ideal candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills, demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a variety of constituencies, be a well-organized self-starter, and be able to convey experience, enthusiasm, and passion for the field of social work during recruitment visits.

Position Summary
The Director of Major Gifts is responsible for identifying, cultivating, and securing support from alumni and friends of the University in the form of cash, pledges, and estate/planned gifts. In order to accomplish Avila’s mission, strategic plan and campus master plan, this position will develop and grow a robust portfolio of prospects at the $10,000+ level. Principle Responsibilities:

  • Build and manage a portfolio of 200+ prospects and donors with the capacity and affinity to give $10,000+
  • In coordination with department and institutional leadership, identify, develop, propose and implement strategies for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship
  • Meet benchmarks for number of solicitations, face-to-face visits and dollars raised; record all interactions with donors in Raiser’s Edge
  • Build relationships and work collaboratively with Avila faculty, staff, and leadership, including the Board of Trustees, Board of Counselors and Alumni Board to accomplish the major and planned giving strategy

The Senior Director of Marketing & Communication is responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating a strategic and integrated marketing, communication and public awareness plan to meet the University’s goals by reaching all internal and external target audiences, including prospective and current students, parents, alumni, media, faculty, staff, supporters and the general public. Strategic Leadership:

  • In collaboration with the Vice President for Advancement & External Relations, guide the overall communications and reputation management of the University.

  • Oversee photography and video production for University projects.

Reputation & Brand:

  • Differentiate the University by defining and communicating Avila’s brand identity through clear, concise and compelling messages that resonate with various audiences.
  • Work with University constituents regarding brand positioning and support University goals including, recruitment and enrollment, student life, academic affairs, fundraising, etc.
  • Ensure Avila’s brand and graphic identity are protected and adhered to. 

Media and Public Relations:

  • Advance the public profile of the University through earned media, fostering proactive opportunities for media coverage that highlight the activities/accomplishments of the University and its faculty, students, staff and constituents. 
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with key members of the media. 
  • Act as a spokesperson to the media for the University.
  • Track marketing and public relations activities/results toward desired goals.  Monitor competitive and industry media coverage.

Qualifications  

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communication or public relations.

Experience: Minimum five years of successful documented experience implementing a marketing, communication and public awareness plan, preferably in higher education. 

Skills:

  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in the design and execution of marketing, communication and public relations activities.
  • Must have experience directing the creative design and production of marketing materials and publications.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication, presentation and listening skills.
