The Art & Design program is built on the belief that affecting positive change is possible through art and design. Avila graduates work as arts educators, therapists, and visual communicators. They leave campus inspired by the values of our art faculty and artists in residence. Our low student-to-instructor ratio means you’ll receive the individual instruction along with the personal freedom you need to explore, find and expand your style. You’ll benefit from the expertise of our faculty as active creative professionals and get a world-ready step up on what it takes to succeed post-graduation.

WE ARE VISCOM: Avila’s School of Visual & Communication Arts is tight group of individuals, creators, artists, communicators, and solid humans.

Choose your Concentration

Graphic Design
The graphic design concentration at Avila will help you develop the strengths you’ll need: your own visual style, conceptualizing skills, and client-oriented problem solving. You’ll also graduate with technical skills such as software, multimedia, and printing technology. Studio coursework includes typography, conceptualization methodology, publication, logo and brand design, and web/interactive design.
Art Therapy
Using art and creativity to serve others, Avila’s art therapy concentration focuses on the use of art media, the creative art process, and patient/client responses to assist individuals with their development, abilities, personality, interests, concerns, and conflicts. Art Therapy courses investigate history, theory, and methods in both a classroom and studio situation. You’ll explore career possibilities, meet practicing art therapists, and visit sites where art therapy is used.

Avila student Colin Hendricks

“My professors structured their classes to be more project-based and provided opportunities to work with local companies. We met with the clients to discover their needs and vision about a project, and it was on us to implement what we found out.”
