KANSAS CITY, Mo - - A pair of Avila University student teams accomplished great things at a regional competition of the American Mock Trial Association, held Feb. 26-27 at Washington University in St. Louis. The competition consisted of two days and four rounds amongst students from 26 university teams that, in addition to Avila, included University of Central Missouri, Drake, Iowa, Missouri, Missouri State and St. Louis University.
Avila Team 1040 – which consisted of Michele Beier, Mathew Dolan, Nicole Drew, David Fuller, Katrina High and Kyle Rosberg – was awarded the Spirit of AMTA, which goes annually to the one team that best exemplifies the association's ideals – civility, justice and fair play.
Avila Team 1041 member, Jennipher Cromley, earned the highest score for best attorney for the entire competition. She scored a perfect 20 out of 20 points and placed first out of 78 exceptional students.
Team 1041 nearly made it to the championship round, to be held later in the year in Memphis, Tenn., but lost in the final round of regional competition to a team from the Air Force Academy.
