KANSAS CITY, Mo - - Alyssa D’Egidio, a junior forward from Canton, Ohio, scored two goals each in three consecutive games for the undefeated Avila women’s soccer team and was named the NAIA offensive player of the week for the week ended Sept. 18.
D’Egidio, who transferred to Avila from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, scored two goals and assisted on a third in a 6-1 Eagles victory at home against the University of St. Mary Sept. 13. Three days later, she scored two more goals and added another assist in a 3-0 victory over Tabor. The next day, Sept. 17, she scored both goals in a 2-0 win over Dordt. All three games were played at the new Zarda Sports Complex on the Avila campus.
D’Egidio, who played defender at UMKC, currently ranks third in the nation in goals scored, with 11, ranks fourth in game-winning goals (3), is fifth in total points (25) and stands 10th in shots on goal per game (3.6).
This marks the second straight week an Avila player has received Heart of America Athletic Conference player of the week honors, following fellow forward Danielle Price, who also has scored 11 goals this season for the Eagles, 9-0-1.
“Alyssa is a dynamic workhorse who plays like a bull,” said Avila women’s soccer coach Chris Clements. “Our advantage is that we’ve got two strong players up top, and it’s tough to handle both of them. We also have many good role players around them.”
