Hartsook Counsels Kansas City Nonprofits for FREE

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- During the Growing Philanthropy National Day of Service, Hartsook Companies' fundraising consultants will hold FREE fundraising consulting sessions Thursday, Jan. 21 at the Hartsook Institute for Fundraising at Avila University in Kansas City to help qualified nonprofits develop an action plan to re-energize their development efforts. Among the problems that will be addressed:

  • Increasing operational or major gift support donors
  • Developing prospect databases
  • Staffing fundraising efforts
  • Engaging and recruiting board members
  • Securing corporate and foundation funding
  • Increasing visibility and enhancing communications
  • Developing and working a plan

More than 40 nonprofits signed up in advance, with missions ranging from the arts, youth success, homelessness and animal shelter. Each organization will bring at least three people, with at least one board member included. Along with a pre-consulting interview and consultation session, a post follow up will be conducted to ensure plan success. Participating nonprofits and board members were also offered more than $17,000 in free scholarship to attend the National Growing Philanthropy Conference the following day, Friday, Jan. 22 in Kansas City.

“We understand the tremendous impact nonprofits have on any community. It is literally immeasurable. When we support them, we support the entire Kansas City community,” said Matt Beem, president and CEO of Hartsook Companies.

With the recent move of Hartsook Companies’ world headquarters to Kansas City, Beem said this event also reinforces the company’s commitment to the city that has been so important to its company’s growth into a national fundraising counsel leader.

“We are pleased to host the first-ever Growing Philanthropy National Day of Service at the Hartsook Institute for Fundraising at Avila University,” said Ron Slepitza, president, Avila University. “Helping nonprofits who are most in need during these tough economic times is a wonderful way to give back to the community.”

Hartsook understands a two-hour session in a day will not likely create instant funding for an organization; however, its fundraising consultants know how powerful an intense conversation about the particular challenges can be. With the perspective of seasoned professionals who have led thousands of organizations to fundraising success, the next steps for increasing funding can be identified. Once identified, nonprofit professionals and board members can develop and work a plan designed around core elements identified during the sessions.

“At a time when each Hartsook employee is working at full capacity in our most successful year in our 23-year history, this is our way of demonstrating our care and commitment to the field of fundraising and philanthropy in a very real way that can yield great results for Kansas City well into the future,” said Bob Hartsook, chairman and CEO of Hartsook Companies.
