Graduate Advising & Registration Guide

Enrollment Guidelines for Graduate & F-1 Students

Academic Advisors are responsible for enrolling new and current students. Graduate students cannot enroll themselves. At the start of each semester, Academic Advisors will reach out to students to collect their enrollment preferences for the following semester.

  • F-1 Students are responsible for completing their program within the period stated on their I-20.
  • Students must plan their enrollment each semester according to the period stated on their I-20.
  • Students can use the program academic plan and tentative academic audit provided upon enrollment as well as their MyAU degree audit to plan out their program accordingly. See Helpful Videos for more information.
  • Advisors can assist in program planning, but it is ultimately the student’s responsibility.
  • Students will be enrolled in the classes remaining in their academic audit.
  • Enrollment is based on the availability of classes.
  • Not all classes are available every session.
  • Requests for specific classes and/or credits in specific sessions cannot be accommodated.
  • The maximum number of credits students can take in one 8-week session is 6 credits.
  • The maximum number of credits students can take in one semester is 12 credits.
  • Students requesting 12 credits must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • The capstone project, XX 694-A (1.5 credits) and XX 694-B (1.5 credits), must be taken in Session 1 and Session 2 of the same semester.
  • Students cannot be enrolled in classes until they have a $0 balance on their account.
  • F-1 Students cannot be enrolled in classes until they are enrolled in an insurance plan.
