Health Care Careers Top Kansas City 2016 Salary List
The American City Business Journals recently compiled and published salary data for more than 70 occupations, comparing local and national pay levels. The health care sector tops the list, both nationally and locally with dentists topping Kansas City's average annual pay list at $181,430. Family and general practitioners ($162,450), pharmacists ($117,040) and physician assistants ($106,420) follow behind.
Many students attending college in Kansas City are enrolling in pre-health programs to prepare for these career fields. Pre-health programs are designed to prepare students for admission to masters or doctoral programs upon graduation. This pre-health preparation includes professional programs in chiropractic, dental, medicine, pharmacy, physical therapy, physician assistant, veterinary medicine and others. Pre-health students can also use their four-year degree program to move directly to many health careers directly upon graduating.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Outlook Handbook health care careers are projected to be some of the fastest growing occupations, growing well above the average for all occupations at 19%. The health care industry will also add more jobs than any other occupation sector.
