Art therapy is a human service profession that uses art media, the creative art process, and patient/client responses as reflections of an individual's development, abilities, personality, interests, concerns, and conflicts. Art therapists in individual, couples, family, and group therapy formats serve populations of all ages, races, and ethnic backgrounds, in hospitals, out-patient and residential treatment facilities, elder care communities, child care centers, domestic violence shelters, hospice services, schools, and private practice.

The Avila art therapy curriculum meets recommendations of the American Art Therapy Association. Courses investigate history, theory, and methods in both a classroom and studio situation. In order to practice as a Registered Art Therapist and counsel patients on a one-on-one basis, you will need to continue your art therapy education at the graduate level. Avila's B.A. in Art Therapy prepares you for entry into any accredited graduate art therapy program.  All art therapy faculty are registered and board certified art therapists with a Masters of Science in Art Therapy or a related discipline.
