Art Education
Art Education
As the home of Kansas City's original art education program, Avila University continues its tradition of providing an excellent program for the training of art teachers.
Art education students major in Art, and minor in Education. You'll have two academic advisors – one in Art and one in Education – to make sure you meet the University's academic requirements, as well as those required for Teaching Certification.
All art education majors begin with foundation courses including drawing, color theory, art history, and two-dimensional and three-dimensional design, which help students establish essential visual, conceptual and technical skills. Upper division art courses required for art education majors include ceramics, fiber, oil painting, watercolor, printmaking, and photography.
Coursework in education includes teaching methods, child psychology and curriculum planning. Student teaching is arranged in area schools during your senior year. Graduates are certified to teach at the primary and secondary level in Missouri. Kansas certification is also available.
