What is Cognitive Science?
Cognitive Science is a multidisciplinary field that brings together researchers and scholars with the goal of understanding the nature of the human mind.
What types of courses do Avila's Cognitive Science majors take?
Avila's Cognitive Science major includes coursework in the foundations of cognitive science, statistics and research methods, cognitive psychology, rhetorical theory, philosophy, and computer science. We offer four concentrations:
- Math/Computer Science
Students can complete more than one concentration if desired. Students in the Research concentration are eligible to graduate with Honors in Cognitive Science.
What careers will a degree in Cognitive Science from Avila prepare me for?
Avila's BS in Cognitive Science degree prepares students to understand how people think from a 360 degree perspective, from philosophical explorations to practical applications. Graduates can find employment across a broad range of careers, including data science, research, education, instructional design, policy, programming, data visualization, human factors engineering, technical writing, consulting, marketing, software development, product design, artificial intelligence, robotics, and more.
In addition, Cognitive Science is a good major to prepare students for law school. Our Research Concentration is designed to prepare students for Master’s and Doctoral programs in Cognitive Science and related disciplines.
