Sunday, October 8 - Des Moines Civic Center
Avila's University Singers have been selected as the touring ensemble for The Legends of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses. Upon completion of the concerts, University Singers will embark on a two day recruiting tour in the Des Moines metro area.
Hilton Head Trip - April 2017
University Singers performed as a special guest of the Hilton Head Choral Society on April 1, 2016. The choir was invited to participate in the invitational concert, and to present a solo concert in the "Friday Night Concert Series" on Hilton Head island. Dr. Bryson was featured as the guest soloist in the festival. Traveling to and from Hilton Head, University Singers performed concerts at high schools and parishes in Tennessee and South Carolina. Notably, we stopped in St Louis to sing for our alumni, patrons and supporters including Sr. Olive Louis Dallavis, the third president of Avila University.
Rome Trip - June 2016
We are proud to report that Avila represented the state of Missouri by special invitation from Sig. Ignazio Marino, the Mayor of Rome, based upon recordings from 2008-2014 submitted to Music Celebrations International that demonstrated the consistent excellence of our choral program. University Singers were chosen to perform in the first Festival Corale Internazionale di Roma in 2009. The invitation to return was a significant honor. Two Avila singers, Alexandra Mester and Jessica Lewis were featured as soloists for the mass performance in St. Peter’s Basilica.
The students returned from this performance truly changed. They traveled to the birthplace of some of the world’s most influential composers and performed the Mass at the Altar of the Holy Spirit within the Vatican. In addition to the Festival, University Singers were chosen for an extended tour of Italy as part of the American Celebration of Music in Italy. After performing in Rome we traveled to Florence, Italy and then on through Tuscany to cities and villages including Venice, Verona and Milan performing several special Avila University Concerts to appreciative audiences. While in Italy, we visited the Roman Forum and Colosseum, the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel, the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, and the Basilica of St. Mark in Venice.
