Overview


Become a Reading Specialist!  Follow your passion for teaching reading & literacy with the Master of Arts in Education in Literacy program. This concentration is designed to prepare teachers to focus on literacy development, instruction, and assessment of students with diverse learning and literacy needs

Teachers who already have their initial teaching certification can add the Advanced Certification in Special Reading

This degree is specifically designed for students who are already state certified teachers to teach literacy in Missouri K-12 public schools.  Students can choose to just earn the Special Reading certification or take 6 more credit hours to earn the full master’s degree.

Program Highlights

  4. Eight-week courses. Focus on one course at a time.

  5. Transfer in up to nine previous graduate hours

  6. Flexible enrollment – attend part-time or full-time

Courses

In order to earn the Master of Arts in Education in Literacy, students must complete a total of 31 credit hours.  There are 25 credit hours that go towards fulfilling the Special Reading Advanced Certification and an additional 6 hours to fulfill requirements for the full Master's degree. 

Each of the courses in this program are 8 weeks in length.

Admissions

Applicants for the Master of Arts in Education in Literacy degree program must hold a baccalaureate degree with an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 from a regionally accredited institution.

Tuition

Students in the Master of Arts in Education in Literacy degree program can pay for each course as they enroll or explore additional payment options with our Student Financial Services office.

There is no application fee, and textbooks and all additional campus fees are included in the total cost of tuition. Costs are the same for students in Missouri or from outside the state.
