Minimum Admission Criteria for School of Graduate Studies Programs
Prospective students applying for admission to one of Avila’s graduate programs must:
Complete all parts of the application for admission on our website;
Have a bachelor’s degree from an institution accredited by accreditors recognized by both the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and the U.S. Department of Education (USDE), including regional accrediting bodies; Teacher education certification programs require a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution;
Have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale for all undergraduate or graduate level coursework. Programs that lead to a state teaching certification require a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Students with less than the minimum grade point average requirement may be considered for admission depending on the graduate program of interest. Additional admission steps may be required for those who fall below the minimum grade point average requirement;
Submit official transcript/s of the bachelor’s degree as well as any graduate level coursework.

Through the College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007, Congress created the Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program that provides grants of up to $4,000 per year to students who intend to teach in high-need fields in a public or private elementary or secondary school that serves students from low-income families.
In order to be eligible for a TEACH Grant at Avila University, a student must meet the following criteria:
Be admitted to, and enrolled in, the School of Education in an approved program of study leading to a teaching certificate or a Master's degree.
- Achieve a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.25
- Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Visit teach-ats.ed.gov to sign a TEACH Grant Agreement to Serve form and complete the TEACH Grant counseling requirement

Avila offers free and confidential counseling for all of our students. Our goal is to assist students in making the most of their educational opportunities and enhance the quality of their lives.
During a counseling session, the counselor will ask you questions in order to help you talk about your concerns and identify your goals for counseling. You will never be forced to talk about anything you don’t want to. However, you may be encouraged to examine unhealthy patterns and behaviors.
Counseling sessions are typically 45 to 50 minutes in length. Some of the more common problems addressed in counseling include:
