What You Learn

This program will prepare aspiring administrators with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively manage today’s complex school building environments.  Courses are taught by professional administrators, with an emphasis on real-world experiences.  This program combines practical and instructional knowledge to manage day to day systems, as well as an exploration of Restorative Relationship theories to create a positive school environment.  This approach prepares building principals to address student and staff issues in an inclusive and productive manner, creating a learning environment that serves all students.

How You Learn

Majority of the courses are all online asynchronous format, with no weekly class meeting required. Classes with a field-based experience embedded may require online synchronous weekly meetings. You will finish 3-6 credit hours every 8 weeks.

Career Outcomes

Candidates will understand how to develop, implement, and share vision for the school in a way that is inclusive of all stakeholders, including the diverse needs of students and staff.  Develop a positive and collaborative culture among staff, students, and community members that is fair, ethical, and models the principles of restorative relationships.  Understand how to use data and research-based practices to lead staff in developing and implementing a comprehensive learning plan that includes: instruction, assessment, data, and feedback to ensure learning for all students.  Demonstrate knowledge of how to create a safe and effective learning environment through successful and ethical management of building resources, processes, and policies.  Understanding of the need for professional growth in order to be an innovative leader who can successfully manage change and navigate the larger social and political context.  Students will have earned a Master of Arts in Education-Building Principal K-12 and be eligible to apply for certification as a K-12 principal.
