B.A. in Strategic Communication

A Bachelor of Arts degree in Strategic Communication from Avila offers a blend of human and professional communication theory and skills. You’ll be exposed to a future-proofing blend of both psychology and business. A “top strategic communications program,” you’ll learn to not only communicate appropriately and effectively in interpersonal, intercultural, organizational, and mediated settings, but your classes will introduce you to a network of communication professionals.

Your coursework will cover the theory and practice of communication needed by organizational leadership. Your classes will combine academic work, case studies, and hands-on experience to create messages across media platforms: traditional, digital, internet, social, and emerging media.

Set your own pace — each session runs 8-weeks in a hybrid format of online and on-campus classes. Scheduled throughout the year you can start at any time and to progress according to your personal schedule.

Careers in Strategic Communication

Strategic Communication graduates will have the knowledge and ability to create, execute, and evaluate communication strategies, making you a desirable candidate for businesses, corporations, government, and nonprofit organizations. Positions titles include:

Defined as someone who creates and maintains a favorable public image for the organization they represent, the PR Specialist crafts media releases and develops social media programs to shape public perception and increase awareness. These job functions parallel many of the duties required in strategic communications.

The BLS reported in May 2017 that the median salary for PR Specialists was $59,300 with a Bachelor’s degree. The job outlook through 2026 is 9% growth/employment change or 22,900 jobs.
