Art
Open to all undergraduate art majors (Graphic Design, Art Education, Art Therapy). Grants are for $500 - $3500 annually, based on the discretion of the grant advisor.
Requirements
Student must be full-time, majoring in Art
Regular Admissions status (If student is provisional admit, student must attain regular status at the completion of first academic year).
Personal interview with Art + Design faculty
Letter of recommendation from high school or college instructor, or other appropriate representative (internship or work supervisor, coaches, adult media club director, etc.)
Work hours for the department in art- or design-related tasks (ex. Tech support in mac lab; help with gallery exhibition) for 8-20 hours a semester, depending on grant amount.
Portfolio Review
Your portfolio should include 12 – 20 pieces of recent work. Drawings and photographs do not have to be matted or framed. You should select artwork that represents the variety and quality of your capabilities as an artist. Show your ability to draw from life, rather than from printed photographs. We will look for evidence of originality, creativity, technical skill, and knowledge and versatility of media and subject, as well as an understanding of color, composition and design.
In order to renew, you must
Enroll in a minimum of 15 Art credits each year.
Maintain full-time status
Maintain a 3.0 in art courses taken at Avila

Optional: Work Samples (DVD or Portfolio of advertising/PR/marketing work; news stories (written,video,audio); newsletters, original writings; design and layout samples, photojournalism, web design, audio or video podcasts, broadcast productions, etc.) Bringing in work samples can help increase the size of the grant.

Requirements to renew Newspaper (Talon News Media) performance grants
Must actively participate in TNM activities as team member and attend meetings, contribute to planning, organizing, and production of TNM publications and programs even if not enrolled for credit or work study.
Must sequentially enroll in and successfully complete Introduction to Journalism, Writing for the Media, Talon Practicum 385 (1 hr), and Talon Practicum 485 (3 hours).
Must during first semester join (at Talon’s expense) and remain in good standing with the American Collegiate Press Association and the Missouri Media College Association standards and practices.
