Here's a little known fact - Esky, the Esquire Magazine mascot for over 80 years was designed by E. Simms Campbell a young African American artist in 1933! As Esquire magazine prepares to celebrate its 80th birthday this fall, the Thornhill Gallery presented "The Era of Our Ways - E.Simms Campbell in Esquire Magazine". The exhibit featured over 600 cover illustrations, cartoons, advertisements, and other art work done by the late E. Simms Campbell as it originally appeared in the pages of Esquire Magazine between 1933 - 1942. The pieces were from the collection of VisCom faculty member Dr. J. Anthony Snorgrass. Thornhill Gallery Director, Marci Aylward and Dr. Snorgrass (both pictured here) designed the exhibit, which included video and electronic kiosks.
