In the School of Visual and Communication Arts, Senior Portfolio Day is an Opportunity for graduating students to meet with and receive valuable feedback from industry professionals in their respective disciplines. Congratulations to our former Talon Team Member, and VisCom Alum Lauren McCarthy who is making her mark on the Auto Industry as Chair of the 2014 KC Auto Show! Lauren received her Communication Degree in advertising and public relations and also played on the AU Basketball team. Currently she is Marketing Director for McCarthy Auto Group.
Emilee Bilyeu, Avila Communications Alum and now Marketing Manager for the Overland Park Convention Center visited with Integrated Branding students sharing the intricacies and nuances of brand management in the highly competitive hospitality industry. Ms. Bilyeu also critiqued student projects and offered critical insights on ways to improve their personal branding projects.
Lauren McCarthy is a Rising Star, Class of 2014. Lauren works in public relations for the McCarthy Auto Group. She is a proud supporter of Catholic education and sits on several boards at Avila University. Lauren was the co-chairman of Avila’s 37th Annual Steer Dinner and Auction. She is also a member of Young Variety and a board member for the Automobile Dealers Association of Greater Kansas City. Lauren was the first female chairman of the KC Auto Show in 2014.

Jacqueline Sharp, Event Manager at the Kansas City Zoo and one of our recent graduates, is giving back to a new crop of Vis Com students. Community Relations Practicum and Sports promotion students brainstormed with Jackie during a recent class visit. In December students will each pitch a sports, educational or special event plan to the Kansas City Zoo. The goal is to have one or more of their plans selected for implementation.

Vis Com faculty and students are very proud of 2013 Film and Digital Media graduate Yohei Ishihama. Yohei was invited to screen his film at the 13 annual Kansas International Film Festival. His screening was the world premiere of his short animated film, Detective Maverick.
