SUMMER DRAMA CAMP AT GOPPERT THEATRE
On the campus of Avila University (11901 Wornall Road, KC, MO 64145)
For grades 7 through graduating seniors
July 22 - 26, 2013
Revenge of the Space Pandas
This musical comedy by David Mamet with music by Alaric Jans is a hilarious science fiction trip taken by Binky Rudich, his friend Viv, and a sheep named Bob. The threesome have an exciting time traveling to Crestview, Fourth World in the Goolagong System, ruled by crazy George Topax and guarded by the Great Space Pandas. Technical theatre, costuming, musical theatre, and acting skills are among the topics the campers will experience as they rehearse this play.
Technical Theatre
Students will have opportunities to learn about designing sets, costumes and lighting and will experience direct hands-on activities in construction of sets, props, costumes and implementing a lighting design.
Acting Classes
These classes incorporate work on the student’s voice, body, and imagination by means of a variety of exercises and drama games. Acting classes help students increase their ability to communicate verbally and physically, to think imaginatively, to concentrate, to feel and understand emotions, to co-operate in groups, and to seek solutions. In its long history of drama training, Theatre for Young America is proud to have nurtured both students that pursue professional careers in theatre and students that utilize their theatrical skills for success in many other fields. Acting classes follow the model curriculum set out by the American Alliance for Theatre and Education, including work on improvisation, scene study, problem solving in groups, monologues, dramatic structure, audition techniques, and basic stage terminology.
