Reulan LevineDr. Charlene Gould, dean, college of humanities and performing arts, recently attended the prestigious Association for Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE) conference in New Orleans, La.

There to present her article on the Dead Man Walking Theatre project Dr. Gould was among the highly selected theatre scholars in attendance.  Dr. Gould directed a very successful production of Dead Man Walking in spring ’07 as part of the 33rd Goppert Theatre season.   The presentation was a continuation of a year-long project associated with the theatrical production.  At the ATHE conference there were over 900 university professors, theatre chairs and performing arts deans.  Many of the presenters were distinguished scholars from the theatre academic community making the selection for presentation highly selective.

Dr. Gould has also conducted extensive research involving representation of the holocaust.   She has been a professor at Avila for over 17 years and has directed numerous productions.

With her belief that theatre can help to bring about social change, Dr. Gould will continue her scholarship by directing the upcoming production of Marisol in the spring of  ’08. Marisol, by Jose Rivera, will run Feb. 28, 29, and Mar. 1 at 8 p.m. and Mar. 2, at 2 p.m.
