Carrie Quinn, M.S., director of the sports science program at Avila University, has studied the heart extensively. Her passion for her research comes from her love of sports, fitness and exercise. She conducted research in nuclear cardiology where she examined heart tissue to determine disease and how the heart would respond and recover. At Avila, her passion for the sports and fitness is evident. In addition to directing the sports science program and advising students, Quinn teaches lifetime fitness where students learn about nutrition, cardio-fitness, and about the changes and hard work it takes to remain fit for life. Quinn will conduct doctoral research in the cutting edge field of exercise physiology, kinesiology, and biomechanics. With this research she will study how the body works and the science behind exercise and fitness. When she’s not studying the wavelengths of heartbeats and exercise patterns, Quinn has another hobby. She owns five horses. She loves to perform ground training and western style riding. She also enjoys volleyball; she was a varsity athlete all four years of her undergraduate career. When you feel your heart as it is racing while you jog that last mile, Carrie Quinn knows what’s happening and why. If you ever meet her on the volleyball court you will see her passion for sports as she works hard and plays hard. Just be careful not to try to block one of her spikes.Learn more about our Sports Science program. |
