Road to graduation is awards-filled for Advantage student, Avila LMS administrator

Katrina Stansbury certainly rounded out her undergraduate career at Avila University in style.

Stansbury, who when she’s not excelling in her corporate communications classes in the Avila Advantage adult education program works as a learning management systems administrator at the University, took home three major awards as she closed in on graduating in August.

  • She, along with classmates and team members Rachel Robinson and Shawn Lundquist, won the Quill Student Award from Quill Awardthe Kansas City branch of the International Association of Business Communicators for their marketing plan for Universal Technologies, a systems installation company in Lee’s Summit, Mo.
  • Stansbury won a Hermes Creative Award, honorable mention, for an event she created for the Kansas City Zoo called “Zoo Guru.” It was a project for her community relations practicum course. The Hermes Creative Awards are an international competition for creative professionals involved in the concept, writing and design of traditional materials and programs, and emerging technologies.

“Getting the awards is a huge surprise and honor and is a nice conclusion to my degree program,” said Stansbury, who later this month will receive a bachelor of arts in corporate communication. “It wrapped it all up. As an adult student, you sacrifice a lot at night, especially when you have a family (she is a married mother of three). This just makes it all seem worthwhile.”

Stansbury is far from finished. She said she plans on enrolling in Advantage’s master’s in management-instructional design and technology program in the fall. AU
