Frequently Asked Questions
whats new

Are lofts (bunk beds) permitted in the residence halls?
Hand-constructed lofts are not permitted in the residence halls due to safety concerns.  Lofting kits available for purchase through other companies are permitted.  The lofts must be assembled according to directions provided in the kit.  The kits must be composed of "fire-treated" wood or metal.  Lofting units with an included futon bed are permitted.

Depending on where you are assigned, your Avila University bed can be lofted or bunked.  All furniture that is lofted or bunked must be done so using appropriate materials.  Pins to bunk or loft beds are available from the hall staff.  Lofted or bunked beds cannot be placed in front of the windows.

How are roommate assignments determined?
The Student Life staff utilizes the information you provide on your Housing Preference Questionnaire to complete the roommate matching process.  It is critical that you are completely honest when completing your questionnaire so that we may find the most appropriate roommate match for you.

You are not assigned a roommate until the Office of Student Life has received your completed housing packet.  The completed housing packet includes your:
  • Residence Hall Contract
  • Housing Preference Questionnaire, and your
  • Health Questionnaire.
We encourage you to submit your materials as quickly after receipt as possible.

When will I receive my roommate and room assignments?
The first round of roommate matches is traditionally completed in early July.  Those residents who have submitted a completed housing packet prior to that date, will receive a room and roommate assignment by mid-July.

The second round of roommate matches is traditionally completed in late July or early August.  If your completed housing packet is received after the first round has been completed and prior to the second round matching, you will receive confirmation of your room and roommate assignment in early August.

Any new contracts received after the second round matching process will be assigned as they are received.  Assignment information will be sent to you as soon as possible.

On occasion it becomes necessary to change a roommate and room assignment after your notification has been sent. Under such circumstances, we will contact you immediately with your new information. Rooms and roommates may change at any point before the start of the academic year.
