Welcome
to Avila's Department of Psychology!
We are part of the College
of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, and are housed in Foyle Hall.
Psychology is the scientific
study of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. If you've ever wondered
why people behave the way they do, then psychology is for you!
One of the core tenets of psychology
is that we can and should use the methods of science to
better understand ourselves and others. At Avila, we use this same
empirically-driven approach to help students become confident, competent,
and compassionate professionals.
As a psychology major, you will develop the critical reasoning,
problem-solving, and "people" skills required for a wide
range of career areas from health care to law to public relations.
If your goal is to become a licensed counselor or psychologist,
you will be well-prepared to enter Master's
and Ph.D. graduate programs.
You can choose one of
three areas of concentration to best suit your career path:
- Human Behavior,
- Organizational Leadership and
- Research.
Through coursework, field experiences, involvement
in Psi Chi (psychology honor
society)/psychology club, and an apprenticeship-model of research,
you will experience collaborative, participatory learning, with
real-world applications. |
