Avila University is committed to giving students a values-based education, through scholarship, service, and interaction. The first opportunity for Avila students to experience service will be the annual “Community Plunge” event August 22, 2006. This annual event is when all first year students participate collectively in a service project that benefits the global community. This year students will work to benefit Havesters – The Community Food Network. Students will repackage donated food that will be distributed to local pantries and members of the community. “The Avila University mission and values are an integral part of the college experience at Avila. They are integrated into all aspects of the students’ education and provide them with the tools necessary to be leaders in the community.” Said Sr. Marie Joan Harris, CSJ, Ph.D. provost and vice president for academic affairs. Avila University is a private, co-educational, values-based liberal arts institution founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet and is located at 119th and Wornall Rd in southwest suburban Kansas City, MO ###
