Avila, a Catholic University, sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, is proud of the commitment made by those who work full time in our various Catholic ministries in the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph and the Archdiocese of Kansas City, Kan.  In recognition of this commitment, Avila University is offering $2,500 per year scholarships to:

1. Any dependent of a full-time employee of a Catholic school
2. Any dependent of a full-time employee of a Catholic parish
3. Any dependent of a full-time employee who works in a Catholic-sponsored ministry
4. Any direct relative (niece or nephew) of any priest or religious employed full-time in the diocese

This offer is for new students accepted for admission as full time undergraduate degree- seeking students to Avila University. The scholarship will be calculated as part of the financial aid award to the student.  Avila is also committed to offering this award to other dioceses nationally.

“We are proud to recognize the hard work of those who serve the faith.  This scholarship is currently underwritten by Avila, but we feel that it will attract the support of generous benefactors who wish to honor those who serve their faith daily through their commitment of work and service to the church and its ministries.” said Dr. Ron Slepitza, president.  “The idea for this scholarship came when I looked back to when a teacher in the diocese of Cincinnati expressed frustration over not being able to afford to send her children to the very schools with the same educational values to which she had devoted her career.”
