ava awardsThe Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals’ (AMCP) announced its International AVA Digital Awards 2013 Competition winners and three Avila University Communication Students won individual honors while the Talon Advertising Group (TAG) also captured an impressive honor.  The AVA Digital Awards is an international competition that recognizes outstanding work by creative professionals involved in the concept, direction, design, and production of media that is part of the evolution of digital communication.

Colbi Howser, Senior Communications major, won the coveted AVA Platinum Award, for her “Don’t Be That Victim” campaign aimed to educate college students on the hazards of celebrity worship and sexual abuse.  The AVA Platinum is presented to those entries judged to be among the most outstanding in terms of quality, creativity, and resourcefulness. 

Aimee Adams, Junior Communications major, was presented a Gold Award for her work with Nexus Ministries.  The Talon Advertising Group (TAG, Avila’s student run advertising agency) represented by senior communications major Kelby Phelps, also won a Gold Award for its digital and social media work. 

Both Danielle Amey, Senior Communications major and Katie LaRose, Senior Communications major were recognized with Honorable Mention Awards for their work with “Study Drug Abuse” an “Free the Girls” campaigns, respectively.

Dr. J. Anthony Snorgrass, Professor of Communications and Talon Faculty Advisor reiterated his pride in the student’s accomplishments.  Snorgrass shared, “…the AMCP judges are experienced industry professionals and are very critical as they look for individuals whose talents exceed a high standard of excellence and whose work serves as a benchmark for the industry.  To have our students’ work honored in this way among the over 2,000 entries from throughout the United States, Canada, and several other countries speaks to both the talents of the students and as well, the quality of the instruction being offered in the School of visual & Communication Arts”.
