KANSAS CITY, Mo - Deanna Nelson, who has worked in the Kansas City area nearly a decade in the areas of development and communications, recently was appointed as the director of corporate and foundation relations for Avila University’s advancement team.
Nelson brings experience from previous positions at Harvesters, Community Living Opportunities, the City of Kansas City, Mo. and Channel 6 News in Lawrence, Kan.
Nelson brings a proven ability to raise funds, as demonstrated by the $3.4 million she helped raise through grant writing the last three years.
“We are thrilled to have Deanna join our Advancement team,” said Angie Heer, vice president of advancement and external relations. “She is an experienced fundraising professional who excels in creating lasting relationships and managing an extensive grant portfolio. Her success in acquiring funding will help Avila grow our mission to prepare students for lifelong contributions to the global community.”
As director of corporate and foundation relations, Nelson will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with companies and foundations in the community with the goal of gaining support for Avila University and its programs.
“I see the great opportunities that exist here,” said Nelson, who will earn a master of public administration in May. “It seems like we’re on the verge of something big here, and I’m glad to be a part of that.”
Nelson said she looks forward to “building connections, pounding the pavement, getting it done.”
Avila University is a private, co-educational, values-based liberal arts institution founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, offering undergraduate, graduate, and adult degree programs. Avila University is located at 119th and Wornall Rd in southwest suburban Kansas City, Mo.
