KANSAS CITY, Mo - - Members of the Avila University football team spent part of the day April 28 visiting and spending time with seniors at the Ventura Retirement Home in south Kansas City. It was Ventura's "Senior Prom," and Eagles players and members of the coaching staff spent time visiting and dancing with many of the home's residents. In the first picture, Avila junior offensive lineman Zach Johnson dances with one of the ladies, while teammate Jarrett Hernandez, a sophomore linebacker, dances with another Vista resident in the other photo. Avila's head football coach, Justin Berna, said "The student athletes really enjoyed their time at Villa Ventura. It's very rewarding to reach out to the community and to see our young men focus on serving others. Everyone had a great time, and we are looking forward to going back."
Members of the football team will also be serving food to needy families May 2 at Church on Independence Boulevard in Kansas City.
