NEWS RELEASE
KANSAS CITY, Mo - - Avila University and President Ron Slepitza welcomed Kansas City Mayor Sly James to campus the afternoon of Aug. 10 for a visit and a tour of the university's new facilities. After a 15-minute chat in the president's office in Blasco Hall, Slepitza led the mayor and a small entourage on a 30-minute walking tour, starting at Goppert Theatre and winding through the newly renovated Marian dining hall, Thompson Residence Hall and the newly-turfed Zarda Sports Complex. The newly-furnished and refurbished dining hall already is serving student-athletes, who reported to campus last weekend, and the sports complex should be ready for use by the Eagles' home-opening football game Sept. 17 against Missouri Valley.
Avila University is a private, co-educational, values-based liberal arts institution founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, offering undergraduate, graduate, and adult degree programs. Avila University is located at 119th and Wornall Rd in southwest suburban Kansas City, Mo.
