Scholarships and Awards

The Student Affairs Committee supports, sponsors, and initiates the REACH, MOSINA, MLN, and other awards for formal recognition of outstanding student achievement. Each award and scholarship has criteria and timeliness specific to the individual program.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Tradition of Excellence
One junior student is selected annually by the nursing faculty following admission to the nursing program. The selected student demonstrates through the application interview and written essay a commitment and potential for excellence in nursing.

Missouri League for Nursing (MLN)
Each year Avila nursing students are eligible for several scholarships distributed by MLN in December. Criteria for selection is based on academic achievement, Missouri residency and financial need.

The Research Foundation provides scholarships for students interested in pursuing a degree in nursing at one of the following nursing programs: Avila University (Kansas City, MO), Rockhurst University/Research College of Nursing (Kansas City, MO) or William Jewell College (Liberty, MO).

Nancy Whalen Nursing Scholarship is awarded annually to help Children's Mercy employees in nursing programs leading to an LPN or RN degree.

  1. Recognize superior achievement and scholarship.
  2. Recognize the development of leadership qualities.
  3. Foster high professional standards.
  4. Encourage creative work.
