The following are commonly asked questions among students. If you still can not find an answer from our web site, please feel free to stop by, give us a call at 816.501.3666, or you can submit your question and someone will respond back.

Where are you located and what are your hours?
We are located in the new Hodes Center located in the lower level of Carondelet. You may walk in anytime between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. You may also schedule an appointment if evenings work out better for you.

How do I schedule a math or english placement test?
Contact the Learning Services office at 816.501.3666 to schedule an appointment. The results will be given following the test. You are allowed two attempts for the exam.

When do I seek help from a tutor?
If you need help on homework and can't meet with your instructor, or need help preparing for a test, or you feel like you are falling behind and can't seem to manage your time well, a tutor can help!

What to do before a tutor session?
Before attending a tutoring session, try your best to understand the material. Be an active student in class. Your instructor is always your best resource. Try asking your instructor for help first, and bring that information to the tutor in case you didn't quite understand what the instructor told you.

What happens during my first tutor session?
At your first tutoring session, you will be asked to give us some background information that will be kept confidential. Your tutor will introduce herself or himself and will discuss your tutoring needs. Then you will work for 25 - 55 minutes depending on the length of the session for which you signed up for. At the end of the session, you will be asked if you want additional tutoring sessions and will be asked to fill out a short evaluation form.

What do I bring to a tutoring session?
We ask that you bring you textbook and supplementary materials for the class, two typed copies of any writing assignment you are working on, class notes, syllabus, past tests and quizzes, homework you've attempted, and writing supplies.
