| Responsibilities |
The Religious Studies & Philosophy department in the College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences at Avila University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Religious Studies position to begin August 2010, subject to budgetary approval. We seek a candidate who is committed to teaching students, through interdisciplinary approaches, to be responsible contributors to our global community. |
| Qualifications |
The successful candidate will possess a PhD in Religious Studies or in a related-field.
Preference will be given to candidates with a specialized background in Catholic Studies and one or both of the following areas: Religious Studies with a global emphasis, and/or Comparative Religion. Above all, candidates must show experience and a commitment to undergraduate teaching, both within the core curriculum as well as within upper-level and interdisciplinary courses. Evidence of innovative teaching strategies, experience with a diversified student population and research informed by a global perspective will all further strengthen a candidate's application.

Must be detail oriented, an excellent communicator and possess strong organizational skills. Perform as a team player and contribute to the effectiveness of the team. Safety Supervisor (Security)

The Safety Supervisor will have a passion for serving students, faculty and staff and integrity in ensuring a safe campus environment. Major responsibilities include patrolling facility or man post as instructed and serve as a general security presence and visible deterrent to crime and campus policy violations; detect suspicious activities and watch for criminal acts or campus policy violations at or near assigned post which may be a threat to the property, students or employees on campus; Report all incidents, accidents or medical emergencies; Respond to emergencies, such as medical issues and community threats such as fire alarms and by following emergency response procedures. |

Minimum Requirements
• Must be at least 18 years of age or older and authorized to work in the United States
• Must have a high school diploma or GED, or at least 10 years of verifiable employment history
• Knowledge of crime prevention, liability and risk management as they apply to the safety and security fields, in particular to the needs of a university setting.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing for the purpose of public interaction and report writing and an interest in being in collaborative service to a university community.
• Personable and friendly demeanor along with the skills necessary to relate well with all types of people.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to be licensed as a private security officer prescribed by local and state laws.
• Neat and professional appearance along with the ability to maintain a punctual timeliness in reporting to assigned/scheduled duty.
• Position requires clear and accurate reporting (written and verbal), sitting and standing for long periods of time, lifting and maneuvering barricades, walking and, during an emergency situation, may require running.
• First Aid and CPR certification courses may be required.
Preferred Requirements (in addition to above)
• Experience in security, preferably in a University/College environment.
• Experience with a working understanding of fire codes or hazardous materials.
• EMT training also a plus. |
