Position Available Administrative Assistant (Part Time)
Appointment Date

July 1, 2008

Responsibilities

The Assistant will work 28-30 hours per week, reporting 50% to the President’s Office and 50% to the Office of Marketing & Communication. The Assistant will handle general office duties, project billing, and special projects as assigned.

General Job Functions for the President’s Office Includes:

  • Answer telephone; assist with calendaring schedules, general correspondence, and filing
  • Provide assistance for special events such as board and faculty/staff meetings
  • Assistance with check requests; monitoring and updating lists

General Job Functions for the Office of Marketing & Communication Includes:
Coordinate all Office of Marketing & Communication jobs, including intake of job details, projected timeline, opening/updating/closing jobs, and generating weekly traffic reports. This may include:

  • Maintaining accurate and comprehensive job histories on Office of Marketing & Communication projects
  • Make updates to current, ongoing jobs, including Web content and print publications, and coordinate in-house printing projects.
  • Maintain billing records for department.

Position Available Assistant Professor in Rhetoric/Composition
Appointment Date

Fall 2008

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include collaborating with English Department Chair to implement writing initiatives and teaching undergraduate writing and literature courses.  Teaching load is 4/4 with reductions for scholarly work. Research opportunities in community literacy, urban studies, cultural and visual rhetorics, or new media rhetorics.

Qualifications

Ph.D. in Rhetoric/Composition with evidence of strong teaching required.  ABD considered with conversion to tenure-track upon completion of doctorate.  Preference given to candidates with current scholarly interests in cultural rhetorics, Writing Across the Curriculum, professional and/or technical writing, community literacy and new media/digital literacy. Candidates must demonstrate ability to work effectively with ethnically, culturally, and socio-economically diverse students.

Responsibilities

he Assistant Residence Life Coordinator assists with the daily supervision of the residential living environment for a campus population of approximately 325 students.  This position reports to the Residence Life Coordinator and is a part of a highly collaborative Student Development team. The Assistant Residence Life Coordinator is a 12 month, live-in position that includes substantial direct involvement with students in many capacities.  This position collaborates with faculty and staff to enrich the quality of campus life and may serve on a variety of committees on behalf of the Student Development team.  Additional responsibilities consistent with interests and expertise will be determined.

Qualifications

The successful candidate for this position will possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and prior live-in experience in a college environment.  A commitment to student development, a sense of humor, creativity, vision, passion and compassion are imperative.

Position Available Director of Registration and Student Records
Appointment Date

April 1, 2008 or when available

Responsibilities

The Director oversees all aspects of the Registration & Student Records Office, including transcript production; grade collection and distribution; degree audits and certification of degree completion; registration; transfer evaluation, course scheduling, and FERPA compliance.  The director serves as the campus PDSO for SEVIS and facilitates OPT requests for international students.     In addition, the Director serves on the university wide student information system coordination team; serves as the University's transfer articulation agreement officer; coordinates the production of course schedules and manages the Registration & Student Records Office's budget. The Director also serves on committees such as the Academic Progress and Athletic Eligibility committees.     The Director supervises a staff of five in a team oriented environment. The Registration & Student Records Office is a part of the Academic Affairs Office and reports to the Vice Provost.

Qualifications

Position Available MBA Admission Recruiter
Appointment Date

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will represent Avila University to prospective MBA and undergraduate students who are interested in the School of Business. This person will recruit students as well as assist the Director in other recruiting/retention activities. Among these will be developing recruiting and marketing strategies to increase enrollments in the MBA and undergraduate programs in Business.
Major duties include:

Will undertake training under the direction of the Director of MBA Admissions

Recruit MBA students to the School of Business

Evaluate MBA applications and make admission recommendations to the director

Promote the majors and degrees offered in the School of Business to business and area organizations in order to strengthen the Avila MBA brand

Work with the Director of MBA Admissions and the MBA Program Director to develop recruiting materials and marketing messages for both print and television advertising

Manage follow up with MBA applicant’s files including telephone and written correspondence and meet with prospects individually for consultation and recruitment

Attend recruiting events as scheduled in coordination with the Director of Admissions

Qualifications

Education:
Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred
Experience:
Four to seven years of business, student recruiting, or marketing experience, preferably in adult higher education. Personal selling highly desirable.
Skills:
The successful candidate will have excellent oral and written communication skills, possess the ability to quickly establish a rapport in one-on-one and small group settings, and possess professional presentation skills. Personal organization of tasks including prioritizing and completing multiple tasks under time pressure are expected.
Proficient skills in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Access are required. Basic skills in other Microsoft Office Suite applications would be helpful.
Working in a team with a focus on success, both personal and institutional, is a major part of this position. A sense of humor and a passion for higher education are desirable characteristics.
