| Kansas City is a wonderful place to live. It is the largest city in the geographic center of the United States. Greater Kansas City has a population of almost 1.6 million people. The population of the city is younger than the average U.S. city, with a median age of 32.7 years old. As Kansas City is located in the center of the United States, it does not usually have the cold winters of the states in the northern U.S. or the hot summers of the states in the southern U.S. |
Museums
Kansas City is large enough so that there aremany activities, cultural events, and places for you to visit, but small enough so that you can avoid some of the problems of larger cities such as traffic jams. There are many museums for you to visit including the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, which has almost 28,000 paintings and sculptures. Other museums and sites include the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art and Design, the Arabia Steamboat Museum, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library, the Hallmark Cards Visitor's Center, the City Hall and Observation Deck, and many other interesting sites. |
Shopping Centers
There are also very many shopping centers in Kansas City for you to visit. The Country Club Plaza is a beautiful shopping center with Spanish architecture and over 40 sculptures and fountains. The over 180 stores in the Country Club Plaza include Saks Fifth Avenue, Gucci, Armani XChange, Eddie Bauer and a variety of other stores. Kansas City is also home to numerous other shopping malls throughout the city. The Legends is another popular shopping area that is next to the NASCAR racetrack in Kansas City, KS. It features T-Rex, an animated dinasour restaurant, Dave & Busters (huge arcade and restaurant) and lots of shopping! |
Sports Teams, Amusement Parks, Lakes, Movie Theaters, and much more!
Kansas City is home to several professional sports teams including the Kansas City Chiefs (U.S. football), the Kansas City Royals (baseball) and the Kansas City Wizards (soccer). Another popular Kansas City attraction is Worlds of Fun which has over 115 performances and rides including the Timber Wolf, which is ranked by roller coaster enthusiasts as the best roller coaster in the U.S. Kansas City also has numerous parks, the Kansas City Zoo, golf courses, lakes, and Oceans of Fun, a water park. Restaurants serving many different types of food are found in the city, and movie theaters are plentiful. |
