The Library is pleased to offer library tours and instruction in the use of the online catalog, databases and the web to both faculty and students. If you would like your classes take advantage of these services through presentations held in the library, please fill out the form below.
  • Tours must be scheduled at least one week in advance.
  • General Library Tours last about 30 minutes. Add 15 to 20 minutes for specific database instruction.
  • If you are making an assignment on a particular database and would like to talk to the library staff about available databases, please contact Kathleen Finegan at x3711 or Larry Kramer at x3712.

Here is a list of the tours that we offer:

ABC-CLIO Databases: American History and Life & Historical Abstracts
Theses databases with citations and abstracts, cover the scholarly literature on various aspects of history and culture.

Academic Universe
Full-text online database covering legal, business, and medical information. Also contains full-text newspapers from across the world.

Contemporary Women's Issues

Full-text database covering women's issues including health, human rights, legal and workplace issues, lesbian concerns, violence and feminism. Available only in the Library.

EBSCO Academic
Includes many full-text periodicals with a focus on academic content.

Electronic Reserve Room and Weekend Intensive Materials

Offers instruction on how to locate and print materials on the library's web page.

ERIC

Database of the National Library of Educational covers the fields of education, psychology and social science. We can show students how to find an ERIC document on microfiche and how to use the microfiche reader/printer. Available only in the Library.

FirstSearch

Over 60 bibliographic databases including CINAHL, PsycFirst, Arts & Humanities Index, SocioAbs, and Medline. Available only in Library.

Gale Business & Company Resource Center

A database to research all business and management topics. Includes directory listing for over 150,000 companies as well as investment analysts' reports on major companies and industries.

Gale Discovering Collection
Discovering Authors, Discovering Science and Discovering U.S. History are also available on the library's web page.

General Library Tour

This is a 30 minute tour to familiarize students with the online catalog, how to request a book online from another library in Missouri, the library's web page with Weekend Intensive Course Information and the Electronic Reserve Room, databases available from the web page, databases available only in the library, the reference collection, copy machines, current periodicals, computer lab, camcorder checkout and other library resources and services.

MOBIUS Online Catalog
Search for books state-wide and use patron initiated borrowing as well as in the Avila Library.

NewsBank
Offers regional news coverage including the Kansas City Star, and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
