Today’s world requires innovation, flexibility, and creativity. Avila’s Creative Arts Initiative prepares students – across all disciplines – to think creatively and imaginatively.
A new Performing Arts Center will provide more space for students who are interested in Avila’s Performing Arts and Visual and Communication Arts programs. It will also enhance Avila’s relationship with Theatre for Young America (TYA), a nonprofit, professional children’s theatre company. TYA will be housed in the new Performing Arts Center, creating the only formal on-campus partnership between a young audience professional theatre and a higher education theatre program in the Midwest. This partnership provide Avila students with invaluable experience in acting, directing, stage design and business management and helps TYA serve 40,000 children every year. The Creative Arts Initiative will heighten opportunities for students to be innovative and develop whole-brain thinking, as well as provide the broader community with more opportunities to experience the creative arts.
Key components include:
"Avila is such a great place because they start at the basics. You're not allowed to fall on your face; you're allowed to develop your own process. Probably the best thing is that I had so much time to perform on stage. That's the best training an actor can have."
