University Awards
Avila University seeks to make our quality educational
programs affordable for all students by packaging institutional
aid resources with federal, state and private awards for which students
qualify. Avila financial aid awards are renewable provided that
a student is enrolled full-time, is making satisfactory academic
progress, meets award specific renewal criteria and/or continues
to demonstrate financial need.

Alternative Loans
Alternative loans are funds from private lenders to help cover educational
costs. A student may want to consider an alternative loan
when financial aid is not enough to cover the student’s cost
of attendance.
- How
do I qualify for an alternative loan? Each lender
has specific criteria you must meet to qualify for a loan.
Most lenders will review your credit history. Your interest
rate will depend on your credit history and you may be required
to have a cosigner.
- How
much can I apply for in an alternative loan? Each
student has a budget based on cost of attendance. Your estimated
cost of attendance is an estimate of what it will cost you to
attend Avila University for the academic year. The estimated
cost of attendance is based on the following: tuition and
fees, room and board, books, transportation and miscellaneous
expenses. Your financial aid package (including alternative
loans) cannot exceed your estimated cost of attendance.
To inquire about a specific dollar amount to apply for, please
contact the Office of Financial Aid.
- How
do I know which alternative loan is right for me?
There are many things to take into consideration when choosing
a lender for alternative loans. Here are some examples of
questions you may want to ask when deciding on a lender:
What is the loan origination processing fee?
What is the interest rate?
When does the loan go into repayment?
If you have any additional
questions regarding alternative loans, please contact the Office
of Financial Aid.
When you are accepted to Avila University through the Office of
Admission, you will be notified of the amount of Academic Merit
Award you are eligible to receive. You should complete the FREE
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) between January 1 and
March 1. You may file online at www.fafsa.ed.gov
(Avila's school code is 002449). You will then
receive a comprehensive Financial Aid Award letter listing the types
and amounts of all financial assistance available to you. This includes
Avila, state, and federal financial assistance. If you have
any questions regarding this awarding process, please contact the
Office of Financial Aid or your Admission Representative.
