Sigma Tau Delta - the International Honor Society in English
Alpha Beta Psi - the Avila University Chapter, Established in 1992

The central purpose of Sigma Tau Delta is to confer distinction upon students of the English language and literature in undergraduate, graduate, and professional studies. Membership consists of English majors and minors who meet the qualifications, which are at least six hours of English course work beyond Composition II, sophomore standing, and a 3.0 GPA in English. The Initiation Ceremony takes place once a year, and graduating seniors receive their honor cords at the Honors Recognition Ceremony in the spring.

Sigma Tau Delta and its members undertake the following:

• To advance the study of the English language and literature
• To encourage worthwhile reading
• To promote mastery of written expression
• To foster community and fellowship among those specializing in the study of English
